Surrey is probably building a 10,000 seat arena in the City Centre area within the next 5-8 years. To me this is by far the best option due to a) transit access and proximity to New West and Burnaby and b) the fact that the whole area is being intensively redeveloped and gentrified.

If Surrey pulls the trigger on this development and the farm team is moved there, I would attend games regularly. Langley is too far to see the Giants.

Yes, it would make good practical sense to have our farm team close. But the cost of living is crazy high here. AHL players/staff don’t make a lot, so the Canucks might have to provide accommodation for many of them.

The minimum salary for AHL players is $51,000 US with full medical/dental coverage, an $81 US per diem for all road travel, and full reimbursement for all travel to and from the city in which they play at the beginning and end of the season. The average AHL salary is over $100,000 US. Also, these guys aren't buying houses here. I don't think playing in a large urban area with relatively high rents has much of an impact.

Rents in this area are crazy expensive. That’s if a place can be found I need a d3cent area. I guess several players could room together to share costs.

Suggestion - Can a new thread be started to discuss desires to relocate the Canucks AHL farm team to a different city? It clogs up this thread for those who want to discuss the Comets 2020-21 season.

It is likely a moot point anyway because it was reported two years ago when the Canucks signed a six year extension with the Comets that they had an opt out clause after year two and year four. I believe the date that the Canucks have to notify Utica that they are opting out is December 31st which is well behind us. So unless they already opting out, which seems very unlikely because there has been zero mention of it, the Comets will be the Canucks AHL team for at least two more years and likely four.

As I have already stated in previous posts if the Canucks call up players currently on the Comets' roster, the Comets will likely not have enough players to ice a roster. Even if they get replacements, they will no longer have a competitive roster and certainly not good enough to support the few prospects remaining. Such is life during COVID hockey.

End of the 1st 1-0 Rochester

SOG:
Amerks - 8
Comets - 16

PP:
Amerks - 1/1 on the 2nd half of a double minor
Comets - 0/0

Lukas Jasek was given a double minor for high sticking and D-man Oskar Laaksonen scored his 2nd of the season on a screen shot from the high slot.

Comets were rusty starting out (duh), but they wound it up little by little and took over the game by the second half of the first. Lots of good chances, but the rustiness also showed on their shot attempts.

Eliot hit the left post square from a right point BLAST. That was the closest they came.

2nd ends with the score 2-2

Anas came in off the right wing. Took it to the top of the circle and was trying to hit Stevens with a ahrd pass, but kind of duffed it, but it still arrived just off to the keeper's right and Stevens was right their to tip it by Luukkonen.

Game tied 1-1.Kaspick handed out a check on the comets end boards. Murray took offense to the hit and went after Kaspick. It was a mismatch from the get go. Have to hand it to Kaspick for standing up, but he was no match.
5each.

Comets got a 2-man advantage for about 1 and 1/2 minutes and didn't score but the Amerks were called again just before it ended.

didn't score and Jasek was called for closing his hand on the puck at theend so the Amerks would go back on the PP. They didn't score and the Amerks would be called for hooking and the Comets would cash in as Anas worked the right wiong boards twicwe . The second time he would slide down the boards and go tape to tape in the crease to Gadjovich as we saw it. AHL.com credits Reinke.

Amerks tied it late with a centering pass off the end boards where both D-men were. Jaskek and McKenzie were behind the goal scorer who scored bang band in the low slot. Considering no d-men were there the next guy responsible in the crease would have been Jasek.

SOG:
Amerks - 6
Comets - 12

29-16 2-period total in favor of the Comets.

Rochester wins it 3-2 on a late 3rd period goal off the rush. Open shot from the circle top corner on the glove side.
My opinion? Kielly goes to his knees the second he senses shot. He also never squared up to the shooter.

Comets outshot in the 3rd 11-8.

SOG:
Amerks - 8 6 11 - 25
Comets - 16 12 8 - 36

PP:
Amerks - 1/5
Comets - 1/5

J. Stevens (4) from Anas (8) and Gadjovich (2)
Gadjovich (9) from Anas (9) (PP)

3 Stars:
1 - Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (Rochesater Americans) 34/36
2 - Sam Anas (Utica Comets) 2A
3 - Dominic Franco (Rochester Americans) 1G - GWG

Tough to get those game legs later on in the game I found after I tuned in midway through the 1st.

quite a few fanned passes, just adjusting to a month off.

I was impressed with the energy the Comets played with during the first two periods after not playing for a full month. But they ran out of gas in the third. Tomorrow will be a challenge in the second of a back-to-back against a rested Syracuse Crunch.

The Utica Comets do not have 1 single player on their roster that is a bona fide sniper. That will kill them in the congested schedule coming up. If they have to work for net front tallies (both tonight), they will be gassed long before they are half way there. It was the problem tonight. They were the better team for 2 periods but couldn't score on their many chances. I don't think Luukkonoen made 3 saves that you could call great stops. In fact as far as I can remember I didn't actually see1. I don't remember the PBP guy yelling "Oh, Great save!"

They fatigued in the 3rd as was expected. Have to turn around and go again tomorrow vs the Crunch, who did not play tonight. Oh, boy.

Don't have a clue as to what ails McGing or Arseneau. Arseneau was injured before the last game on March 10 and did not play tonight. McGing played in the March 10th game. He scored a regulaton goal and another in the shootout win. COVID maybe.

There is no way these 2 are healthy scratches so Cull can play ECHL Cameron and AHL contract Jackson after 1 pro season in ECHL Tulsa.

I didn't think either one of them was all that impressive offensively tonight and both had a couple gaffes int heir own end. it was not one of their better nights.

Got to get back to game shape just like the rest of the boys. Could really use some standout goaltending. Kielly is not going to be a #1 in the regular AHL. At least not for a good team.

Hope Joel Hofer makes his debut tomorrow. Would expect some of you Canadian folks to be familiar with him. He's St. Louis property, but he's a Comet so let's see him get his shot. The Comets are going to be getting a lot of games in a short span

Inauspicious debut for Hofer. Syracuse scores 17 seconds into the game. Radysh with an easy uncontested tap in on a rebound.

1-0 Syracuse
