:handclap:This thread is dedicated to the shootout savants out there. I want this thread to feature the most innovative and effective shootout moves. As the shootout has evolved, so have the moves, and I want this thread to feature the evolution of shootout moves! If you find a video of a creative shootout move, or think of one that might be effective, please share it!

Thanks man! My friend (the goalie) and I will be making more videos on that channel. Stay tuned.

I think the backhand to forehand move is SO effective. So long as you can sell the backhand well, you have a very good chance of opening up some net for the easy goal.

Datsyuk does it the best - he's 14 for 24 when using it.

There's a terrific article on it here:

Filthy! That's a move that Kovalev uses a lot with extreme quickness - He sells the move very well.

If you sell that shot well, the curl and backhand roof is so lethal.

Frans Nielsen #1 all time shootout percentage at 55.6% [25/45]

And when goalies know the move is coming, you come in and rip a shot and catch them waiting for the move. Frans does that as well, versus goalies he sees a lot. So the move gives you two options depending on what you see.

Yeah I think that the best moves are the ones where you have 2 options.
That way it leaves goalies guessing.
Great find on Nielson man - many people don't know that he's tops amongst the league!

Let me know if you ever come across any creative ones you think I may not have seen as well

Filthy hands for sure. The goalie is definitely not on your level though. Lots and lots of open net. Plays insanely deep in the net.

I think he was kinda letting him score for the sake of the video... I noticed he didn't attempt ANY poke-checks so he definitely wasn't really "trying".

I don't know why you'd trust me, but he didn't let me score lol.
However, the goalie is coming off of knee surgery so he's a bit rusty.
If I wanted to score for the sake of the video I probably would have edited out all of the fails lol.

Thanks for watching mate.

Yeah you're right. I played a considerably higher level than the goalie, but he's a very good sport and wants to get better so I'm not going to take it easy on him.
He's got a lot to learn, and he loves watching these videos to correct mistake (ie: playing too close in the net and cheating to the glove side) He's just coming off knee surgery too

The biggest thing is to get his side to side movement down quicker, as well as his anticipation.

Though my job as a shooter will be to deceive him into another knee surgery lol

Fake forehand shot (with fake leg kick/shoulder drop) to the backhand works about 90% for me on the shootout/PS/breakaway. Its my go to move.

I like to do three big dekes starting at the blueline, hit the breaks at the hash mark/faceoff dot, and take a slapshot glove side.

Is that a move you created, or a move you've seen some NHLers do?

The quick snapshot glove side is a classic - don't see it used too often as tendy's are getting very good on the glove side.

As a former goalie he does quite a bit wrong, which is fine because I'm by no means an expert. But I did notice that he just watches the puck continuously. I'd almost always watch the players eyes because at some point or another they will help indicate where they are looking to shoot and/or move.

He plays very deep in his net and wasn't aggressive at all either, which for a fun skate/video making is fine, but if he wants to improve he should probably be a bit more aggressive at certain points. There are a lot of moves guys try to do that just won't work if they aren't given the time and space to do it because they aren't a threat until they are done with the move.

Knee surgery could slow down anyone though, so hopefully he doesn't have any other issues.

I look forward to seeing more videos and it's really cool that you guys do this. Looks like a lot of fun.

You're pretty fancy, eh?

Yeah he is on this thread so I am sure he will love to read your helpful comments. I know he would appreciate it coming from another goalie. The sitting back too far in his net, and watching the puck too much are both very good points.

You are very right to say that it doesn't matter how skilled the moves are if the goalie doesn't let the player finish them. The best weapon against any skill player is to be aggressive! Never give them the time of day.

I definitely look forward to making more of these - see how much better he and I both get...and see if I can concoct a few more innovative dangles.:sarcasm:

PS: I loved that video you posted hahhaha - I'm now watching many YouTube videos of the mighty ducks history will be made videos.
