The figures look awesome, I just meant the drawing on the box seemed to be a darker shade of green (although maybe this is what Devastator looks like in the current cartoon?).
I know that feeling. I keep talking myself into buying more figures. I bought the Aerielbots, so I have to buy the Stunticons. But if I buy the Constructicons, I almost have to buy another set of Autobots to maintain balance, right?
Leaning towards getting the Megatron and possibly the upcoming Starscream. I never had a G1 Optimus growing up, so that's the one I've been debating for years. Not really digging the Combiner Wars Optimus though.
You could be right, there was a boy maybe 9 or 10 eying up Devastator when I was checking out. I was surprised he knew who he was, he said he was in the current cartoon (I guess that's what he was talking about?). Despite my age (25) I was raised on G1 and have never given the other series a fair shake. I only buy toys that are some kind of G1 homage.
I keep pushing myself away from the slippery slope that is the masterpiece line, but if you want a great optimus figure (or did you want the actual G1 original toy?) they just reissued MP-10 and you can get him for around $250.00 I believe. I also am not feeling the Combiner Wars figure, he just doesn't scream Optimus and shares a mold with Motormaster (who is great as a bot and truck, but the torso is pretty bleh compared to Superion)
I am avoiding Megatron and the current Seeker mold not because I don't think they are great representations of the characters I love but because I'm trying to maintain some sort of reasonable scale among the figures I purchase (which Devastator is breaking... I really wish he was the size of the other combiners or moderately taller because of his 6th member or even better if they were all his size lol). Leader figures might work for a few characters (Jetfire was always huge) but not the above mentioned.
I'm skipping the Autobot repaints of the Stunticons (both waves, but I'll get Sky Lynx of course
) because I want some diversity among my figures and they obviously were never combiners in the original series. I missed the classics releases of these guys a few years ago, but I think at some point (maybe years down the line) they'll give some of the characters another go.
That being said I would highly recommend Hot Spot and the other Protectobots, they are quite cool. Just go ahead and do yourself a solid and budget for Bruticus as well, because if you get Defensor he just has to pair up!
Honestly though, despite me trying to form some type of collection of the Classics/Generations figures, this might all be moot. They are first and foremost for my boy (the only reason I can justify sinking so much into them in such a short time) and they are bound to suffer some battle damage which will be hard to replace years down the line when he grows out of them. I've already had a Silverbolt figure broken (RIP) so I have to come to grips with that.
