Lots of Transformers news from the San Diego Comic Con!

First look at G2 Menasor and G@ Superion.

I like that they finally got Motor Master right. He was a cool toy but was never right to scale. He matched up horribly to Optimus Prime in those re-enacted king of the road play sequences. Also, his transformation from truck to Robot was VERY unrealistic in the real world.

How long before people with bad memories see the new Devastator and swear that's the one they had as a kid?

People did it with masterpiece Optimus Prime. Even if you told them "no, your tiny little 6 year old hands just though Op was bigger, and your feeble 6 year old brain just thought it was more complex." they would swear up and down that they had the totally show accurate and doesn't-have-a-giant-gaping-back-cavity foot-tall modern one vs the original.

It's funny, the G1 Devastator did seem so much bigger as a kid. Now it's sitting on my desk at home and it's about as tall as a bottled water.

Never did have Optimus (among others) as a kid, so that's been one I'd like to get. Not really digging the Combiner Wars Optimus though.

I remember G1 Dev. the tallest of the combiners.

Here is something very interesting and cool from the earliest days of the Transformers brand – dare we say, pre-Transformers? That is what we have here for you – a translation of some of the early mini-comics that came with the pre-Transformers Diaclone line, from when it was released in France.

You might remember that the Diaclone line was the Japanese toy line from which Hasbro took many Transformers molds.

It’s this French release of Diaclone we are talking about today. Joustra included a series of 10 minicomics with the toys, featuring the various characters, arbitrarily grouped into a heroic faction and an evil one. The heroes were led by Convoy (Optimus Prime) and included the future Autobot cars, and Decepticon cassettes, amongst others. The villains were led by an extremely cool toy that never made it to the Transformers line, Multiforce 14, who also had the likes of the Powerdashers and Minibots under his command.

WOW! WOW! WOW! It's like a rough telling of how the Trandformers came to be in a very strange alternate time line. I had several of the toys in the diaclone line up. The camera, and Robocolt! That was my version of Megatron, b4 I got Megatron. Wish I still had those toys. Man oh man, good stuff.

BTW, the 14 car combine looks an awful like Voltron 1. I got that one somewhere around here.

Didn't know that somebody made a mini Fortress Maximus.

Hasbro has released some official images of the Combiner Wars Combaticons.

I always liked the Combaticons.

Bruticus devistate Devistator!

**** me, that set looks amazing. I bought the Takara FOC set to build Bruticus and it looks like it has a severe case of anorexia. This one looks much better.

Also just found this up for Preorder on BBTS.

Finally, a good looking Ironhide figure.

Not that it'll dissuade me from buying it, but I'm not digging the shade of green used on the illustration on the box.

I was thinking the same thing.

Certainly, a precursor to Devastator and the other combiners.

What a great picture. I have all of these combiners. I would have loved to pick up a mini version of Forttress Maximus. At least that version os more to scale of what he appeared to look like in the comics.

I just picked the set up for my son. The figures are a G1 accurate color.

I blame this thread many months ago for rekindling my childhood love for transformers. Ive picked up the majority of the combiner wars line ostensibly for my son but also for me.

The figures look awesome, I just meant the drawing on the box seemed to be a darker shade of green (although maybe this is what Devastator looks like in the current cartoon?).

I know that feeling. I keep talking myself into buying more figures. I bought the Aerielbots, so I have to buy the Stunticons. But if I buy the Constructicons, I almost have to buy another set of Autobots to maintain balance, right? :D

Leaning towards getting the Megatron and possibly the upcoming Starscream. I never had a G1 Optimus growing up, so that's the one I've been debating for years. Not really digging the Combiner Wars Optimus though.

You could be right, there was a boy maybe 9 or 10 eying up Devastator when I was checking out. I was surprised he knew who he was, he said he was in the current cartoon (I guess that's what he was talking about?). Despite my age (25) I was raised on G1 and have never given the other series a fair shake. I only buy toys that are some kind of G1 homage.

I keep pushing myself away from the slippery slope that is the masterpiece line, but if you want a great optimus figure (or did you want the actual G1 original toy?) they just reissued MP-10 and you can get him for around $250.00 I believe. I also am not feeling the Combiner Wars figure, he just doesn't scream Optimus and shares a mold with Motormaster (who is great as a bot and truck, but the torso is pretty bleh compared to Superion)

I am avoiding Megatron and the current Seeker mold not because I don't think they are great representations of the characters I love but because I'm trying to maintain some sort of reasonable scale among the figures I purchase (which Devastator is breaking... I really wish he was the size of the other combiners or moderately taller because of his 6th member or even better if they were all his size lol). Leader figures might work for a few characters (Jetfire was always huge) but not the above mentioned.

I'm skipping the Autobot repaints of the Stunticons (both waves, but I'll get Sky Lynx of course :D) because I want some diversity among my figures and they obviously were never combiners in the original series. I missed the classics releases of these guys a few years ago, but I think at some point (maybe years down the line) they'll give some of the characters another go.

That being said I would highly recommend Hot Spot and the other Protectobots, they are quite cool. Just go ahead and do yourself a solid and budget for Bruticus as well, because if you get Defensor he just has to pair up!

Honestly though, despite me trying to form some type of collection of the Classics/Generations figures, this might all be moot. They are first and foremost for my boy (the only reason I can justify sinking so much into them in such a short time) and they are bound to suffer some battle damage which will be hard to replace years down the line when he grows out of them. I've already had a Silverbolt figure broken (RIP) so I have to come to grips with that.

I went from not wanting any of the figures to picking up Menasor and Devastator yesterday, as well as Hot Spot, Silverbolt, Air Raid, and Alpha Bravo. There is something fun about just going from store to store trying to find the missing pieces, reminds me of when I was a kid doing the same thing.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. It just wasn't as satisfying having to order a couple figures through Amazon. I'm waiting for Devastator to pop up at my local Target. Toys R Us bumped up the price to $170.

Well at least you're honest about it

I have the War Within series (comic books) and I loved them, I wish they made animated movies out of those (like how DC does - DC Animated trumps Marvel Animated by a massive margin).

I'd rather watch that than ever see Wahlberg or Bay attached to the movies, EVER again.

I thought this was old news?

It'll make a ton of money, which is all the studio wants. It's god awful.

Ended up ordering Devastator off Amazon ($20 cheaper than Target). Missed out on the fun of locating it in the store, but it didn't seem like my Target/TRU were gonna get some any time soon.
