I could be wrong, but outside of parts of New Jersey, I dont think it's very popular at all.

I'm sure you can probably get it somewhere, but I cant ever recall anyone I've known eating it in other places I've lived in the country. Food Network did a bit on it a year or so ago and mentioned it as being a "Jersey Thing".

any part of the country that had immigrants during the depression has their own unique "meats" of questionable origins. Scrapple comes to mind as one of the more well known items.

Cincy has something called goetta. It actually tastes pretty good if you don't ask how it's made.

Your CAA agent is smoking crack.

I-87 (which turns into I-287), to I-95 (NJ Turnpike) over the Delaware Memorial Bridge into Delaware, to 13, then over and under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel system (which is absolutely one of the most gorgeous bridge systems in all of America) to Nags Head.

That's gotta be at least 2 hours quicker than how the CAA person's sending you, maybe even more than 2 hours (you could put both routes into Google and see).

I guess her point was that the traffic was too big especially on the I-95 so she wants to avoid it. She said that it's only 70 km difference, and based on the fact that I'm avoiding the traffic on the I-95, it will be around the same amount of time. And we avoid pay tolls which she evaluated at around 30$. What I will probably be doing is try it both. Will go from Montreal to Nags Head from the route I told you and will comeback with what you're telling me. Chances are I will also have to make a pitstop in Boston when I come back to see a friend so your route will surely be the way to go when I'll be back from Nags Head. And we will most likely be taking our vacation every year on the East Coast so trying everything won't hurt depending of where I'll be going.

Another thing...why the 13 and not the 1? Because of the tolls only?

Cant speak to the difference in the price of tolls with the 2 routes, but unless you're making a mistake in your post in what she told you, that route you laid out is a heckuva lot longer than just 70km (42 miles). And there shouldnt be a lot of traffic in Jersey, especially middle of the day like that. My guess is she doesn't realize you can take I-287 to I-95 and completely bypass the congested parts of Jersey, which is what I imagine she's talking about when she mentions "traffic".

I think the 1 would be a bit faster, but not by that much (I was doing it from memory and confused the two). They run somewhat parallel for much of the way and are often very similar roads that are generally 55mph. I'll be heading down that way this weekend on vacation myself. That DE part of the drive is mostly rural, but there are small towns mixed in to at least gas up and hit a Wendys or something.

1 splits off of 13 and heads east then south right along the coast through Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City (crowded slow road through a beach community). 13 is pretty much a straight shot through DE, MD and VA. I'm pretty sure it's not a toll road.

Going through google maps, the route you are talking to is 1322 km. How about this road....I-81, 476, 95 and 1??? Gives me 1372 km. 'Cause you are right, her road gives me 1517 km....:amazed: I'll have to review all of this....problem is that I'm actually in a hurry to do it as I want to reserve a hotel mid-trip to sleep while I'm heading there and when I'll come back. I wonder if they're just fans of the show and its characters or if they have one specific person they like above all else? (Seinfeld, Kramer, Costanza, etc.)

I really hope your joking because no person can be this stupid.

Enjoying being low class as I eat my Taylor Ham & Egg on an English Muffin for breakfast...yummy!

Most celebrated foods come from the bottom of society. Polenta/risotto, ribs, stews, sheppard's pie, cassoulet, any sausage/tube meat...how about freakin bone marrow? How poor did you have to be to split a bone and eat the insides? Now it is celebrated by foodies and hipsters the world over....

And it should be!

It is a celebration of making something out of little or nothing. And it is an act of remembering difficult times in a way that almost says thank you.

Lobster used to be considered a poor mans food. No high class people wanted anything to do with those giant underwater bugs.

What's going on with all of these train derailments?

Too many passengers reading HF boards in the offseason. Things tend to go off the rails.

Chicken wings say hello. Look at the historical price of chicken wings (flappers) which were once considered scrap and either thrown away or used just to make stock. Legend has it we can thank Teressa Bellissimo for coming up with a late night snack in a pinch for this fantastic item.
