Police snipers have been around for probably a century. Nobody would have been surprised if this guy had his head blown off.

He was inside a parking garage.

Deadly force was definitely the right call.

It is still unnerving to see military tech needing to be used in a domestic policing issue.

I dont find it unnerving at all, on the contrary, I'd like to see the officer who thought up this ingenious plan given a commendation for his/her ingenuity that highly likely saved multiple good guy's lives.

Nothing to see here.... pay no attention to the Roomba with the C4.

I don't wanna make this post too long, I feel like I make too many long posts as it is. And I'm not trying to get into politics here, just stating on how I feel about politics. More so than trying to debate political ideologies or even where I stand.

My friend at work constantly shows me his facebook feed and this is one of the reasons I stay away from facebook and the like. Like today his feed was filled with all kinds of posts from either side of what's been going on the last few days. People on both sides, and the comments section really annoyed me. Each side of the posts was filled with comments from friends of theirs on the other side of things, mocking people and threatening to delete people for posting such ''******** rhetoric''. It's just so childish and it's not the first time I've seen this before on there. It's why I just gave up on politics years ago. You have the people on the far left side of things calling everyone that disagrees with them ''Nazis'' or ''Fascists'' and then people on the far right of things calling those that disagree with them ''Commies''. And I've seen people say ''First person I see in my feed about not liking Christmas, I'm deleting'' and ''First post I see about not liking Obama (or Trump or whoever) I'm deleting''.

And it's gotten so ridiculous to me. People arguing and not wanting to be friends with someone because they believe in the second amendment and others not wanting to be friends with this person because they believe in gun control or don't celebrate Christmas or are an atheist or something. I personally am conservative (particularly fiscal issues) on some things and very liberal on others (particularly social issues). But I don't vote anymore and don't plan to. And while you all can tell I just LOVE debating hockey things to the moon and back, I have no energy to debate political things anymore. I really haven't had the energy to debate them since I was in my early 20's or maybe even my teens. It's just gotten so stupid that people wanna literally stop being friends with each other over political beliefs these days.

So the robot wasn't designed for this.

Well, technically it is a bomb robot. :sarcasm:

Was this robot bomb trick something used in urban warfare or was this legit a trick made up on the fly?

AFAIH so far on the news, this was a new thing. But given how extensively robotics were used in Iraq, I'd almost be surprised if something like this hasn't been done before. I bet this question will be fleshed out in the next few days.

My feed on Facebook is a cesspool. I check it once a day to see things from my wife's sister and her family who live overseas.

The American dialog has been disintegrating for the last 15 years. If I had to point to a specific time, I would say so much of the downward spiral began with the impeachment of Bill Clinton followed by the hanging chads in Florida and Al Gore. From my perspective everything since then has been hyper-political. Since then political controversy could pop up for any reason and it has become more viscous than I've ever seen.

Since then dialog has been slowly replaced with snide mockery and demonization. Let's see who can yell the loudest and drown out the opposition. Sides have never been so distinct...the minions used to be paid consultants, now you see everyone regurgitating talking points like they are on the staff. It doesn't even matter what the point is, demonize and insult the intelligence of anyone who opposes your doctrine.

That's where we are. And the sad part is people are actually dying as a direct result of this hyper political climate.

Yes more fishing please. I'm so fed up with all the nonsense that's been going on, I just can't talk about it anymore.

Going to pick up my crab traps soon, hopefully I'll have some appetizers for later. :)

A friend of mine who lives in Monmouth county told me crab fishing has been very good this year? He text me last week and said "Fluke and crab cookout coming be ready!"

Yeah the crabbing has been pretty good this year and started picking up a lot earlier than normal with the mild winter, seems like were a month ahead of schedule.

Fluking hasn't been great in the bay (LBI) but it's been good on the state reefs in the ocean. A lot of fish around but small, we caught 15 shorts on quick trip all fat and healthy. You'll get a keeper eventually if you weed through the small fish but I don't mind, the little ones fight like crazy and are super fun on with light tackle.

I feel like I'm getting closer to fulfilling my golf goal of breaking 80. I shot an 80 on the number today. That's with an 8 at one par 5. But that was the only hole I was more than 1 over. I had a birdie putt on 18 to shoot 79, burned the edge. But today was the first day I felt like I put multiple parts of my game together in the same round.

I haven't played golf in years. When I did I was really good getting the ball to the green, my putting was a total dumpster fire.

I learned that the type of ball you use can make a world of difference. The cheap balls are tough to get backspin on, but the more expensive ones make it much easier.

I shot 78 once on a par 71 course - no mulligans or foot wedges but it was the 2nd round I played that day walking and I knew exactly where the pins were which helped tremendously and I got paired up with 2 other walkers who were VERY good golfers. I think that "play to the level of your competition" really had something to do with it. I was playing 2-3 times a week back then too. Man it felt good to write that score on my card. I saved it for years just to get a smile on my face remembering it.

Those were good days.

Playing with good players definitely helps. The greens we played today were crap. And they were 5 times slower than my home course. It took several holes to get used to. I really wish I wouldn't have had that 8. Without that, I'm comfortably in the 70s.

Also, we never play mulligans. We generally play the second to farthest tee boxes. No gimmes, no improving your lie, etc. I had a couple nice recoveries from under trees today.

Yeah I've just become really fed up with all of it. There was a time I loved to argue political things, but it hasn't been for a really long time.

As far as fishing goes, I don't do it or crabbing because I don't like killing things. And all you people who fish and crab are no better than hunters and no better than people who murder other humans and I should block you on here and anyone else that posts about such stuff!:sarcasm:

But in all honesty though, I seriously don't fish or crab because I don't like the idea of killing them. I seriously have a hard time killing them or cooking a lobster that's alive. Now I eat all of that stuff, so it's not like I have a moral dilemma with it. I just would rather someone else catch the stuff and cook it if it's still alive. And I'll gladly eat it. I still have a guilty feeling about killing bugs, sometimes I'll kill mosquitos. That's about it.

You don't have to kill anything fishing. In fact most fly fishermen take extra special care not to kill or even harm any fish they catch. Especially trout.

Yeah I know not everyone takes them and eats them, I'm not sure I could do that either. I'd be too tempted to eat them after that!

I can't remember the last time I kept any fish I caught. Releasing them is the most gratifying part of the experience. Like shaking hands with your opponent after a boxing match.

I keep some ocean fish. A lot of times when bone fishing a jack or snapper will grab my fly and we'll make ceviche out of it.

Yeah - not enough salt. :sarcasm:

I like salt...especially on the rim of my glass. That's a big bone of contention in my house. She doesn't like salt on her glass.

I wanted to write a blog about getting your wife/girlfriend into fly fishing so I wrote an article called "Salt is the way". Saltwater fly fishing is sometimes considered intimidating or too expensive but it really doesn't have to be and that was the second installment.

So I let my wife read it and she said it was boarding on chauvinistic. I said, "well, I was kind of taking to guys"

She said you should write to a broader audience. I was going to make a joke but the situation was s a bit tense, so I just threw it away.

Damn Salt always gets me in trouble.

Walleye is by far my favorite fish. But I like mild fish. Fluke and sea bass is good as well. But it's no walleye.
