I'm sure it's already been posted in this thread, but this is such a gem from the series. Perfect parody of the fast-talking police type shows and this is such a tight, well-written minute long subversion of a scene we've all seen a million times

Read a theory recently, and I likely won't be doing it any justice here because I am going to forget some points, but someone connected the dots that Tony could have been killed by the man in the Members Only jacket, hired by Gene's wife. At this point, Gene's aunts money would have come in, and Gene's wife could have hired a hitman for a large sum of money to take out Tony. This of course would be due to her blaming Tony for denying Gene's family's move to Florida, and Gene's subsequent suicide.

This scene always cracked me up - Vito is so funny here.

I liked that theory too, especially because Gene's suicide happened in episode 1 of the final season which is entitled Members Only. It seemed like tight bookends. That said, I am sure David Chase made that ambiguous on purpose and that was just one red herring amongst many.
I'm much more inclined to believe that than the Paulie/Patsy theory. It was pretty clear by the conversations they showed between her and Gene that he talked about the life to her more than the average wiseguy. She could very easily know of and how to contact some of Gene's old associates.

I think the natural end to the Paulie storyline is that he dedicated his life to the mafia, showed intense loyalty to men that are now dead, and will die alone leaving behind a twisted and evil past. Betraying Tony in the end sours that in my eyes. Who else does he have?

I highly doubt any of Gene's old associates would accept a hit on Tony even if they were paid well. Tony not letting him move to Florida was irrelevant since the FBI wasn't going to let him stop being an informant.

It's pretty obvious that it was the Lupertazzi's who killed Tony imo.

I could be wrong but I remember it being implied that Gene was keeping his FBI association a secret from his wife.

New York killing Tony wouldn't be much of a surprise either but the brokered peace deal would have made it pretty messy for New York.

Yes, Gene gets a call and his wife gives him shit that he has to answer and leave cause its Tony but it was actually the FBI

As for Tony, I always felt it was a hit still in motion from Phil that wasnt undone by his death, or his temporary turning into a house

I'm in the process of rewatching this. I forgot or never realised how funny it is. Livia's wake had me howling for a good ten minutes solid.

“Sacre bleu! Where is me ma ma?”

Tony walking out of the house and strolling down the street to the Kinks “I’m not like everyone else” just caps a perfect scene.

I'm pretty sure it was New York who killed Tony, but Chase actually doesn't know who did it, so it's left open-ended and up to the viewer to decide (similar to the ending until he's been more clear on that in recent years. Tony whacked a 5 families boss without commission approval, that's generally a death sentence regardless if you were in a kill-or-be-killed situation (Genovese and Lucchese's tried for years to wack Gotti but eventually gave up, but they first blew up Frank Decicco when they thought Gotti was getting into a car with him).

You're so high on skag you wouldn't know if he had your mother's muff on his head.
