So most of you here, wouldn't switch Slaf for Cooley if that was offered tomorrow?

I was one of the few that had Cooley at 1 in that draft and I wouldn't do it.

Cooley may still remain the more productive offensive player, but we got Suzuki, Caufield and Demidov in the top 6. We need Slaf's size, build and playstyle to complement them more than we need another puck dominant smaller skilled guy.

Would rather a svelte first liner producer than a big guy who you have to prod and hope he moves his feet, shoot the puck, play the body. Many of these big guys don't end up doing it regularly. The few that do are obviously unicorns. I'll play the odds.

While Slaf's upside is undeniably more interesting -- and we'll know if and when he performs in the playoffs -- Cooley is on the verge of lapping Slafkovsky's career points in 40 fewer games. That says a lot. Given their size difference, I think that's damn cool for Logan Cooley and he's on track to become a protagonist in the NHL, the star of his line, while Slafkovsky is still not on that track. Would go with Cooley.

Cooley shows a lot more dynamism in his game, variety of plays, decision making, shooting, etc. I catch his highlights so I'm probably missing his warts so it's not a "scouting report" sort of comment but rather what I see in the players. At this moment I think it's only rational to go with Cooley if given the option.

Yeah I’m wondering about this too.

What was he sidelined earlier in the year for? I don’t think he’s 100% tbh. He was better last year. I know there’s peaks and valleys but that’s not my feeling now.
He didn’t go to a slovakia international event of some sort near the start of the season around august/september because he had to be ready for this season with the habs and it had to do with an injury, I think it said his back.

Back in August, Slaf skipped the Olympic qualifiers because the Habs didn't release him to go, we learned a bit afterward that he was rehabbing a back injury he got during training. He might still have problems with whatever that was too.

Man the Cooley disrespect in this thread is ridiculous. He's lightning quick, plays like a Konecny/Marchand at 6 ft, has elite vision/shooting/playmaking and takes defense seriously. If Utah offers him for Slaf you accept yesterday. The notion he plays like Jack Hughes is ridiculously false having watched Utah multiple times this year. It's more him carrying Keller/Guenther/Sergachev than the other way around.

Who dared to insult Jack Hughes by comparing a run of the mill 2C to him?

Yeah, I wonder why another team's player is ''disrespected'' and not acclaimed in a thread that isn't about him.

It's a thread about Montreal Canadiens Slafkovsky. Hope this helps.

Yes and a Montreal Canadiens fan brought up the subject of Logan Cooley, a player he has clearly not watched enough to formed an informed opinion on. Hope this helps.

There was a moment during the Vegas game where it looked like Slaf was trying to avoid putting weight on his left leg. I really suspect he's playing with some recurring minor discomfort/injury to his lower body.

Would make sense. That said, he was cutting a lot better today, looked more like last year. But the top speed isn't quite there yet.

McBain responds with slick goal | NHL.com. (Sorry for the 15 sec ad before)

This is Cooley’s point tonight. He has so many of these same exact type of points. This is great for Utah. Bless their soul. But this is not what we need.

  • Bigger, nastier teams have had more success recently: In the last five years, teams that hit more, take more penalties, or have a size advantage over their opponents have all won more than half the time.
  • Stanley Cup Champions have a physical edge: The last 10 champions have had a size advantage and hit advantage in 55% of their series, and those percentages have climbed recently.

Anybody got a highlight package of his second half of last year? Kinda like the Dach highlight package. I need a refresher of how good he can be
