Player Discussion The Slaf Thread - Parabolic Growth Edition

I agree but he could help his cause by moving his feet more.
Sad to see this now after what we saw last season. Good news is we know he can do it.
He is sometimes late on plays and is guilty of reaching for pucks and taking big hits. I wish they would work with him on that alone to save him from potential injury.
I swear this is a criticism on Slaf since his Game 1 in the NHL.

love Slaf, but i'd change/work on the following.

Better tape job + shorter stick

Balance + core

Watch Corey Perry videos

Or maybe because he was simply playing with Dach. The guy produced everytime he got put on the 1st line unlike Dach/Newhook. His play wasnt awesome like last year but he was still on the scoreboard

No, he was not good regardless of where he was playing.

He wasn't moving his feet or shooting the puck.. neither of those things have anything to do with who he was playing with.

It's more the Leonard type we lack (a shoot-first physical winger), and Desnoyers is not quite that.

Many thought Slafkovski was that, but I've warned everyone that he's a playmaker with a pass-first attitude.

That can change.

Pacioretty was the same way pre-draft and his his first few pro years until he was forced to adapt to playing with DD/Gomez.

Many of the top goalscorers in the league today were pass first to begin with: Draisaitl, Reinhart, Point, Nylander, Verhaeghe
Others have also had some outlier scoring seasons where they adapted their role like: Scheifele, Barkov, Bergeron, Lindholm, Aho, Staal

The important thing is we know he has the heavy shot, and we've even seen him score before in the Olympics. The rest is just mental.

Slaf has been like that since 12 years old, good f***ing luck with that.

Maxpac was a shooter at 14-15-16.

Slaf just needs Demidov and a center that can score.

Ie.
Demidov (Mix) - Suzuki (Mix) - Slaf (Mostly setup)
Caufield (Score) - Hagens (Mix) - Laine (Score)

Max was not a shoot first player until 2010-11.

Slaf has much higher G/A ratios at the same ages

Mixed bag game from him and of late it seems. Some bad decisions and would want more consistent effort but he’s still making plays all in all.

Like someone else said on here, if this is him at his worst then we’re in business.
He's still a kid, it take years for players to become consistent game after game. Especially since his game consist of some physicality. But it's always a good sign when players are still able to produce in those situations, for me it shows he can become a pretty good point producer.

He was 2nd and 1st star in two of the last 5 games.

He's a lot less stationary then at the start of the season, is winning more puck battles and using his body/reach to shelter the puck a lot better, despite clearly not going at 100% every shifts (but then neither is Suzuki, CC appears to be buzzing a lot more than the other two).

He always had issues with b2b, he should still have legs for tomorrow the way he played today thought. I feel like the 1st line played somewhat like they did in the 1st game of the Detroit b2b, they came roaring in the 2nd game.

If he wants to be slow to start every year and then turn on beast mode from January onwards, saving himself to become slafzilla in the playoffs, that'd be just fine with me
Would be the opposite of what we've been used to in the past lol.

Imagine how many points Slaf would have had if he played alongside Wayne Gretzky in his PRIME!

Sooo many points!!!

:naughty:
Go look at Gretzky's highlight reels. nothing he does would work today. Nobody ever hits him either, and when he gets hit hard he leaves the game. Watch Mario highlights he powers his way through everything like a tank, he's being hacked and hooked to shit but still no stopping him. Gretzky's dipsy doodles throught the tulips would never work in today's game. Mario would lead the league today and would put even McDavid to shame. Would probably be the first 300 point player in today's NHL.
