Post-Game Talk: The Sieve We Know

Yup. I feel like there are definitely bigger haters here. I really don't want to be (I'd rather he doesn't suck), but I feel like I'm at least on the city council of Stuskinnersucksville
My hate for skinner grew the moment he refused to take accountability for his poor goaltending night after night. Hard to root for a guy who ends up having a smirk on his face talking about a former teammate using a nickname being a reason why he let in a stinker of a GWG. How he can stand there and have that expression is just a huge slap to the face to McDrai. Our two best players were pissed on the bench right before Draisaitl scored with seconds left in the 2nd period, then they tie it up only to lose due to Skinner. Skinner’s reaction after? Yeah ol Foegy distracted me and Danault had a whiff rainbow shot that went in while smiling. Such a disgrace.

Spoken like a guy with job security. Him and Dusty get a free pass from the media, without fail

It’s utterly despicable. I had my issues with Mike Smith here and there, but granted, the last thing he’d ever do is smile and affectionately talk about a former teammate after losing from a weak ass wrister after the team in fronts came out swinging to tie the game. The guy had fire in his belly and absolutely hated to lose. Skinner? It’s like losing is just a normal day for him to go home and listen to more podcasts and book reading. No f***ing compete level with this guy. He makes more effort bopping his head to the shitty music in the arena, slamming the net before he turns around for puck drop, or swinging his wet hair back before he puts on a helmet than he does at actually trying to make saves and will his team to win. Disgrace, really.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier but Frank Seravalli was on 1440 and had this to say about the state of officiating

"NHL officiating is the worst it's been in decades. The data points to that with the drop in powerplay opportunities. I think we're dealing with is tons of inexperienced officials. We're in a state of crisis"

Two terrible played periods this is the stanley cup playoffs lol.

Goal two he made the save and kicked the rebound to the corner and Byfield made a good play and was in the perfect spot.

Goal six was a complete fluke that he didn’t see because of the Foegele screen
He didn't see it because he already lost it, before Foegele screened him. He wasn't even looking in the vague direction of where the puck actually was.

At this point, you're just trolling.

we always get crap officiating in CAlifornia. This has been going on for years. I remember in a series against Anaheim, Lucic was playing, it was terrible as well. This fella refereeing the other night has been an official for lots of years but very limited playoff experience. I guess we know why now

Not inexperienced officials. It was by design.

But what was the excuse for not addressing the net during this season? Look at what the Colorado Avalanche and GM Chris MacFarland did. They weren’t happy with Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen’s play early on, so they went out and got Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, not letting an acquisition cost including prospect Nikolai Kovalenko and a second-round pick deter them from their goal of pursuing a Stanley Cup this season. Colorado got some of the best goaltending in the league out of their new tandem from that point onward. The Oilers got some of the weakest overall goaltending in the NHL all season.

You can’t walk into a postseason as a true Stanley Cup contender with a team that finished 19th in save percentage at .897 this season – especially after the same two netminders gave you just a .904 combined mark the season before and a .902 postseason SV% during your run to Game 7 of the Final.
It was glaringly obvious that the Oilers needed to improve their goaltending even it meant getting creative with their cap space, and they failed to do it. The letdown of Game 1, in which they controlled 54.67 percent of the 5-on-5 expected goals and still lost, is on the front office. They’ve made their bed.

The Avs and the Leafs, two prominent playoff contenders that had issues in net addressed the issue without giving up much, the Stolarz signing and the Wood times two trades. The Sens got Ullmark although that's not looking too good in the playoffs but, still, at least they addressed an issue and he had a great regular season to get them to this point. The Kings got Kuemper who did stink in Game 1 but had a stellar regular season. Devils kind of failed with Markstrom but at least they're trying something.

The only other playoff team outside of the Oilers that had a real goalie issue that didn't address it was Carolina and they'll probably flame out like they usually do.
There's plenty of examples of teams not just standing pat with their below average duo hoping against all hope that they figure something out that they haven't been able to all season. The only thing I can think of is that Skinner has shown flashes of being a good goalie in the past, he did have some real good stretches the previous two regular seasons and in the Dallas/Florida series so they saw what he's capable of but he's been consistently bad this season. That's a hell of a risk you're taking on a guy that has had shattered confidence for months now and a career AHLer as the insurance plan although Pickard can be passable in short spells. This is a fireable offense if it's goaltending that sinks them again. No excuses when you've had an entire offseason and regular season to address it.

Unfortunately, Skinner is only as good as the team in front of him. If the team isn't playing perfectly [or near perfect], he struggles mightily. The only thing consistent about his game now is he's consistently horrible at bailing out his team

I seen an article preview from Spec today. Talked about how the Oilers will have to make a decision on Stuart and Bouchard this off season.

If they already haven't made a decision on Skinner, lord have mercy.....lol

I don't count Silovs, so Stuart is the worst career playoff active goalie in the NHL right now. Mindboggling that he is and they went to a finals lol

I remember reading an article over 5 years ago that predicted this. It was talking about a lot of vet officials retiring all within a few years

What Seravalli is missing is it's the experienced officials that are the f***ing worst. No younger ref has the chip on their shoulder, the ego, or the showmanship that refs like Sutherland and McAuley have that have been here since the stone ages. Games don't go sideways much anymore, but I don't think its a coincidence that two of the very few that went this way in our games this year were called by McAuley, the purported "best in the league."

Kyle Rehman, who was the ringleader of the gong show in Game 1 and went to bat hard in the scrum to make the wrong puck off the glass call, has over 1000 games in the league. His colleague Trevor Hansen, who decided to change the game with a chincy and incorrect holding call a minute in, has over 700 games.

The officials are f***ing trash, it's not the experience that's the problem. The refs suck, the head of officiating sucks, the department that manages them sucks, the way they are held accountable sucks. McAuley has no business being anywhere near the playoffs this year based on the actual job he did. Why is he there? There's no accountability for the ones they like.

Technically, Silovs is in the AHL.

You're absolutely right. I only saw it once in real time and turned off before replay.

It was shaping up to be a 2 on 1 but Bouch hustled and got back to take away that option. The LA player then pivoted and hit the trailer.

While I maintain that Bouchard was easily the biggest culprit on the nite with 2 major blunders....he is not to blame on that goal.
He played it fairly well and busted his ass to get back

Watch the goal again. He hustled back, but then forgot to continue to play defense. Look where Bouchard is once Foegele stops in front of the net... He's literally floating right beside him. He didn't even attempt to clear Foegele out of the way!

That's because they are deciding whether to sign him on a 5 yr NTC contract or 8!
