Honestly it's a smart thing to do for Stauffer to pump Skinner's tires. There's no sense in piling on him while there's no options. Even if we go with Pickard, Skinner would still be here and might have to play.

Your take is incredibly stupid. Let's take last season, Oiler were a top 3 team in preventing high danger chances, top 2 team in rush chances, top 5 team in shots against. A team with better metrics that Tampa ever put together. The Oilers- were 2nd in the league in preventing rush chances- you know who allowed the most rush goals (odd or full)? Stuart. Stuart also had one of the worst goals saved above expected.

This season, the Oilers lead EVERY SINGLE WEEK in xG diffential (prior to 4 nations) and were a top 5 defensive team. The only reason the Oilers weren't first in the entire league was goaltending. Stuart was toiling at the bottom of list (using the average number of games played by a starter at that point in time) and in the 70's of all goalies.

There isn't a single f***ing metric that agrees with you.

Is it on the defense for the bad goalie numbers, or does the uncertainty in net make the team worse? It could be both, but maybe not

So why then, would we not try a cheaper option to test the theory even? Get a goalie with good numbers on a bad team like Reimer or Lyons or Talbot or whoever. If it's on the defense, even a little, then those goalies would come here and their numbers would tank. Lesson learned

Yes, although that isn't the lesson here. The Leafs didn't have optimal goaltending so they tried different guys. If our management would have been running the Leafs they would have rode it out with Samsonov and Jones, because goalie talent isnt real. They are just a product of their defense, right?

But it kind of is. You have a goaltending department in Toronto that seems to get everything out of their goaltenders and the Oilers have Schwartz

I'm not intelligent enough to express that we need to commit to an upgrade in goal. They gave Campbell too much for too long and we are still paying for that error.

I don't want to defend Stu, he wasn't better than Campbell but was more sober so he go elevated too soon. I think he is too slow for the NHL.
