Post-Game Talk: The Sieve We Know

lol what does this prove? Where’s the “didn’t start playing until the 39th minute” stat? Where’s the “6 SOG halfway through the game” stat? Where’s the power play xGF?

Oh I see, when you count PP xGF the total xGF jumps to 4.51. Very interesting. Keep absolving the skaters of playing brutal hockey for two full periods.

That can be true and it can also be true that Skinner is the absolute king of soul crushing softies.

One of these gets the benefit of the doubt. One doesn't.

Knob shouldn't have kept the nuclear option on after the tying goal, I heard Matt Kassian say the exact same thing.
You know I think after edmonton scored on the ensuing face off I think it was Louis who kinda said surprisingly it looks like edmonton thinks it can finish this game in regulation. I never paid attention but now It's obvious a comment about leaving the big guns in the ice still.

Some one else mentioned they played 5 of the last 6 minutes. Your right I have to wonder wtf was knob thinking. Fresh legs most likely gets us into overtime.

Mcdrai took over. And they are next to unstoppable. The one who stands in the way is fking stu

Vegas breaks down, every team breaks down. They give up 2-1’s 3-2’s breakaways multiple times a game. Theres no team that can play perfect hockey every game. Can you limit? Yup that’s the whole point of hockey. Try and break down on offense try and defend on defence.

When every time a mistake happens goes in your net you have a big problem. It’s happened all season long, actually for 3 years now.
I am one of the biggest Skinner haters here.

I think if the Oilers play 99% picture perfect D, Skinner will still let in a back breaker.

I am not even making any excuses for him. I only want to see him start a game now if Pickard falters but we know this shit coach will start him game 2.

I am only speaking about how terrible our D look. They can't even hold their positions. Make a nice box, protect the god damn net, especially when you a shitty sieve back in there.

He will absolutely start game 2. I'd be shocked if he didn't. After all, he is "always bounces back from a shitty game" Skinner.

Would be nice if he could just..... stop with the shitty games though.

You’re right the team played an admirable 60 minute game. Holy shit you people can never have more than one culprit for any loss.
Stuart is the most known culprit and responsible for many of the losses. Bouchard has been making a name for himself. The rest of the guys are just vanilla. Not bringing enough for playoffs but they're not making mistakes.

The cadence of okish first period, atrocious second period, then a mad dash once they figure out that effort is required in the third needs to stop. Despite being down 2-0 in the first, I thought we were the slightly better team in the period. Then we decided to mope into the second and lose the game.

As predicted, if not for the goalie I think we steam roll them the rest of the series. The moment we actually started playing at a pace that matches a playoff level they couldn't touch us. There is a ton to build on after that 3rd period, and all the things they had to rest on (goaltending, defence, home ice) got exposed in that game.

We will win the series if we can just get below average goaltending and the odd save at the right time. Remains to be seen whether this organization will do the right thing and start Pickard or if they're going to choose to risk yet another playoff year on the garbage goalie that clearly can't get it done.

One positive is Walman. He was f***ing awesome, and is a gamer. He's a guy that can frustrate you at times, but he's not afraid to elevate in the playoffs. If he can inject just a little bit of that into the idiot wearing #2, we are laughing. Hope we can get him on a long term deal at a nice AAV.

Vanilla is putting it lightly. Most of the skaters couldn’t be found on a map. This is the playoffs and if you’re getting outshone by Matttias Janmark then just retire.

Unfortunately, this core doesn't have the ability to "manufacture hate, etc". Like a MJ. They need to be dummied to level up. They have done this from day one.

Not even the core, almost everybody. They just cannot start games with a rocket up their a**es. They always just feel it out while getting drilled.

It's so weird to me, but hey, I am not a pro athlete. I don't know how you go almost 40 min with 6/7 shots on net.

I find it ridiculous that a goalie coach gets to decide who starts in net??? Isn't that the domain of the head coach?

To draw an analogy from another sport, does the QB coach get to pick who starts at the QB position? No, that is the privilege of the head coach who ultimately bears responsibility for the team's performance.

I don't know what happens in the NHL outside of Edmonton regarding this selection(s).

I suppose if goaltending was a real strength then you could understand how the HC would defer to Schwartz but this is clearly not the case with the Oilers.

Is that even confirmed here? That POS Schwartz picks?

He has to have some relation to somebody in this org. Cockroach just keeps on surviving.

Everything to do with the goaltending here is so bizarre that you can't help but think that there is some sort of meddling at some level to save someone their job or something. Management refusing to add even a depth addition at the deadline, the weird goalie coach picking the starter thing, the media seemingly muzzled or unwilling to even discuss the goaltending, etc.

You have every hockey person in the world outside of Edmonton from executives to scouts to media to the f***ing janitor saying that our goaltending isn't good enough, all while their peers in the Edmonton bubble play deaf blind and dumb. How is there not a single Edmonton media member harping on the goaltending? It makes no sense.

The bar is so f***ing low that it went from Skinner needs to at least be average now to below average in order for the oilers to succeed with him in net. Absolutely disgusting that we can’t even ask him to be above or right at .900. Hope he enjoys the pizza 73 ads. Clearly he cares more about that rather than stopping a puck.

You're making it sound like we do this every other game. Of course you would do that.
It’s been a theme for this team throughout the years. It’s the damn playoffs. Why did one team need two periods to get going while the other was ready from the drop of the puck? Every game matters right now, and slow starts have killed this team time and time again. Sorry but the skaters don’t get off the hook here. 6 shots after 30 minutes is flat out unacceptable.

Kulak one was holding. 2 calls on Hyman and Walman were pathetic. We know what we are up against for sure. We didnt look good in 1st. Hopefully Stetcher is gtg

Stecher being out is a back breaker. He was playing very well down the stretch and is a usable player for 15-18 mins per night in a bunch of different situations. He can play with varying partners and be steady.

Brown/Dineen/Klingberg is a significant downgrade.

You're kidding right? He let in 6 goals on 30 shots. 3 of them were absolutely horrible. I'm not saying he won't get the start because the people who run this team are trying to gaslight us about him, but the guy shouldn't even be in the league after that game. He was f***ing lost in his crease all night.

Half the goals were absolutely horrible mistakes though. When that number equals 3, and this is in no way the first time this has happened, it's a major major problem. How do you expect to win 3 games when the goalie gives 3 horrible goals up, and that only equates to half of the goals they let in?

Who cares? Anyone who keeps supporting this guy (all of Edmonton media) don't deserve to be listened to. We can tell when we're being sold something by the media in order to push a narrative.

Kuemper was terrible, but you know what? Skinner was worse. And this has happened multiple times this season alone. It's outrageous we're still even having this conversation. He should have been out of the league ages ago.
If this thread were nothing but apologizing for Skinner and making excuses for him, I would be railing against him the hardest. I'm just saying it's over the top because it's like three quarters of this thread or more of just Skinner hate. I don't think that reflects what happened last night. I also don't think we need to be panicking just yet.

I figured game 1 would be the hardest game of the series. We are the most injured and have the least recent chemistry. Even in this game, Walman started very weak but reached top form during the 2nd period. That should continue on.

I'm still optimistic about the series.

When I have all of my buddies from Vancouver, MTL, and Toronto always telling me for the last few years "I hope you guys never get a goalie" while laughing, it just enrages me when I see this sh** org never trying to change it. What a waste of Connors productive years

Just look at COL. They were in the shitter this year. Lo and behold they go get a goalie after trying to improve it and they sky rocket.
