You're imagining that the Oilers do this more than other teams. It happens, sure, and it's frustrating when it does, but it is not comparable with Skinner crapping the bed.

It’s. The. Playoffs. The team is 3-11 in game 1s in the McDavid era. You can’t keep falling behind every series and expect to come out on top. So yes there is some precedent to the team being consistently slow out of the gate.

Ironically two of those three wins are with Skinner in net.

A LAK player can do the same thing, and fat f*** 74 would still be on dial up internet connection trying to move laterally and then have a surprised face seconds after the puck is in the net with the kings cheering as a result.

That game reminded me of Game 1 vs Calgary a few playoffs, where the Oilers erased a 4 goal deficit and it was all for naught.

And Calgary were the favorites and then we took them out in 5 IIRC. Hopefully history repeats itself.

Like I said last night, it was a vintage performance by Connor McDavid skewered once again by vintage Stuart Skinner. If we won that game in OT, the kings morale would've dropped even more heading into G2. Granted they're gonna be more cautious especially with 97 on the ice even further, but it just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth seeing the team make a huge comeback only for 74 to let in a weak ass knucklepuck with seconds left in the game.

But at least this shows the kings defense and Kuemper are both solvable. The team needs to start rolling immediately once puck drop starts in G2. No excuses.

Skinner was terrible. Will add the team in front also wasn't great notably Bouch with some tough decision making and penalties were costly early in digging the hole. This team needs a better, athletic tender behind it because it will leak quality, not necessarily quantity chances and deserves a guy who can bail out their risk taking. Way too much volatility in Skinner's game. Added to poor decision breakdowns and it's a bad mix.

That's not even the point anyway: Skinner in his career in the playoffs, prorated over an 82 game season rate, would give up over 25 goals above expected. That is calamitous.

Until this team wins the Cup they should be held to a degree of scrutiny. Letting them off the hook for not trying is absurd.

Especially Lowetide. I had to stop listening to the boring sounding dude after he kept stroking Skinners shlong all year and would have no talk about upgrading lol.

Then some woman with hard numbers cut down Skinner an he kind of changes his mind pre deadline.

Lowetide wrote a terrible piece for The Athletic about a month and a half ago defending Skinner where his argument was essentially, "if you take away all of his bad starts, his 5 on 5 save percentage is actually pretty good". And he completely ignored any other metrics for evaluating goaltending besides 5 on 5 save percentage.

Even asking Skinner simply to move laterally from post to post is asking for too much. Guy's literally on dial up internet connection 99% of the time. Seeing his 'stunned' face after Danault's knucklepuck was disgusting to see especially after Connor tied the game.

In regards to coaching, Knoblauch better not f***ing play J Brown again either. If Stecher's still not ready to go, I'd still rather play Dineen over J Brown. Dineen can at least skate and move the puck. J Brown can't do shit other than looking like a piece of meat for the kings licking their chops when he's on the ice. Was a huge mistake playing him which resulted in only 4:54 TOI the whole game and had the other 5 D playing extra minutes is inexcusable of Knob. Frankly getting real sick and tired of his coaching decisions too.

I dont think anyone disagrees that the Oil have to be better for the first 40 mins.

But at some point we need a big save, which he never does. So not only does he often play below average, he also is the king of back breaking, soul crushing softies. Both of these are true. We can often overcome our slow starts, we usually do not overcome Stu.

He made several big saves in the first two periods when his mates managed 0 on 10 shots. As an OLD goalie positive momentum has a lot to do with tenders confidence.
