The Sens are 4th in the league in WAR lost due to injuries.

Technically if you take away Ellis ltiretirement injury, Sens would actually be third in the league in WAR lost behind Colorado and Vegas (Which shows how terrifying both of those teams are fully healthy).

Canadiens suffered the most injuries overall, however many of their injured players were a net negative to begin with.

This actually gives me some hope for the senators next season if rhey can get a better coach and a healthier roster.

do not get this thread. Only Chabot was a core player who missed key time. 5 players have played in 81 games. Sens just did not have good depth. The Sens are like the oilers of a short time ago. 6 good players and the rest scrubs. Chych does not count--he was late to the show

Sens are actually 8th, and one third of that is simply just Forsberg and Talbot. I don't find it that encouraging.

Also Habs aren't first, Vegas is. And most of the Habs' injuries were definitely impact players, not sure why you thought otherwise.

But if you're looking for words of encouragement, I do think that losing Norris hurt them way more than people realize, and will give a huge boost next season. They just need better goaltending, in my opinion.

It comes from this:

His WAR metric does not account for negative WAR, only lost positive WAR, and is based on a 3 year weighted average.

Poor guy is going to be running around fielding questions as it's now come up in 3 or 4 threads today.

Uhhh, lmao, what? The Sens have been missing their literal top goalscorer (35 goals last year) and 4th top goalscorer (18 goals last year) for the entire season.

I'm not sure if Formenton is included in the statistic as he's not injured, but yes, he is also not in the line-up unexpectedly.
I know, he's almost certainly not included in the statistic which means the Sens have been dealt an even worse hand than this stat shows.

Norris? Rotating between 7 goalies is also huge. Zub missed quite some time.

Wow this would be bad if WAR had any real meaning.

Losing your 1C for almost the entire season, losing your best defensive Dman for more than 30 games, losing your starting goalie for the most important part of the season have meaning.

This is just WAR. Take away goaltending, and Sens are still 5th

So the implication is they just got unlucky with injuries. My question is what are the chances their players are actually injury prone. Like is Chychrun suddenly not going to be on IR every month next season? Chabot has never played a full season in his career. You get my point.

It's a fair point.

Chychrun, Norris and Chabot have all seen ample time on the shelf. Talbot is old.

It's also why individual "pace" arguments are always a bit weak to me, because you can't help your team in the press box.

Josh Norris missed practically the entire year, not to mention all the goalies they've had to cycle through

Formenton not being in the lineup is not the Sens being dealt a poor hand. That is their own fault and a choice that they made to not have him in the lineup.

Next year is a make or break for Dorion and the Senators.
