OT: The Semi-Annual, Taste Optional Music Thread: Post Your Mid-Winter Blues Music

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Got introduced to this album earlier this year by a friend. Tis a banger. I think The Dear Hunter might be lined up for me on a playlist too

TDH is a band that, on first listen, I wrote off and is pretty far from my usual wheelhouse but you really benefit from just starting with Act I and playing straight through until V. It's very 'musical theater' in some ways with recurring themes and callback leitmotif but I think that's what I like.

It's kind of a popular pick but my AOTY last year was probably the Blood Incantation. It's fascinating. It has moments of traditional Florida death, proggy metal bits, and then these random chill-out spots. Imagine taking an old school 6 cd changer and loading it with a mix of Morbid Angel, Cynic, and Animals from Floyd and then just randomly hitting shuffle.

Missing Shock G lately. Sure he was in it for the fame and fortune. But I think he was in it for the love of the music, creativity and showmanship just as much. Couldn't find an acceptable Freaks of the industry video so gonna post this.

This idea of a 'vocal crush' whereas I, a heterosexual married man, hear another dude singing and just want him to lullaby me softly to sleep at night is extremely real and Mark Hollis applies.
