I am responding a bit late in this thread and haven't had the time to read over everyone's comments so if I repeat something mentioned earlier, I apologize in advance. I will be more than happy with either player as our pick, although I just don't see Ray Shero passing on Jack Hughes by any stretch of the imagination, which I am certainly OK with. I do feel, however, that how we move forward after the #2 pick will be dictated by who we get. If we get KK, then the organization will have to truly assess sooner than later if ZBJ is truly that #1 center that will be the solid rock they can count on in making long grinding playoff runs which is truly a commodity in today's NHL. I am still on the fence with him in that role. He is young and still maturing as a player so I don't think a true determination can be made as of yet. They may want to get more looks at Chytil at center to see if this is his more natural role on the team or if he can go further as a winger. OR, maybe some draft day deal is in the works to move up with our second pick to land a Cozens or Turcotte? We just don't know at this point. I wish the draft were tonight, to tell you the truth. June 21st can't get here soon enough.
Spare yourself.

Zibanejad's kind of in a funny spot--he has three years left and on a great contract for the Rangers and will be 29 when it's up. The next couple years we're going to see if he can sustain or increase his production from last year whether Kreider is here or not. If he can't I think the Rangers almost certainly move on from him--he's going to get at least a full season and part of the next though before we even contemplate that. If he can sustain or increase production then going into 21-22 the Rangers will have to decide what an appropriate new contract will look like. Do you give a 29 year old an 8 year deal?--and I don't think so. Personally the longest I'd give him is to 35--so a 6 year deal. At what he's producing now his $5.3 mil is not really great compensation--so I suspect he'll have a high number in mind keeping in mind that this very likely will be his last NHL deal or chance to score big. I can see the Rangers moving on from him at the earliest in 20-21 and at the latest the trade deadline in 21-22 unless Mika is willing to take 5/6 years in the $7-ish range. If they do move him he should bring back to us good package of players, picks, prospects and some of our other guys should be acclimated by then.

The great thing about picking 2nd is if Kakko ends up when all is said and done as the second best player in this draft, that's a win for us hands down. If he ends up the best then even better.

If Jack Hughes doesn't end up as the best player in this draft...Good luck with that pressure Jack.

And if Kakko doesn't end up at least the 2nd best?

No one knows how this will all play out, so everyone is always at risk in these "if" games.

Me too. He was enjoyable even when he was an Islanders guy. He's one of the few announcers who can pump his team up without diminishing the opposition.
(which is one thing I love about our guys, too).

Which is why I despise Doc Emmerich, the NBC crew, the Bruins and Pens announcers more than anything in hockey. Their homerism makes watching games unbearable.

I actually don't mind announcers supporting their home team. That's fine and reasonable to me. But I can't stand when they put down the opposing team. It's petty, disingenuous, and unfair.

 True, that will be a pretty big hole to fill.

No but it's definitely considered a goalie number more than a skater number.

Auston Matthews seems to be doing fine with no 34. Soderberg, Winnik, Andersson all wore no 34.

This talk about "ugly numbers" is really weird. After the whole debate about how "50 isn't a hockey number" I thought I had seen it all.

Yea there are a few

34 is still a goalie number, not sure why the argument over a silly issue haha.

Yuck, is he going to play goalie?

Boo can GTFO when we draft KK.

24 is much, much sexier number than 34.

As I'm already a proud owner of Laine jersey with (with ink) I'm not going to bother holding onto the habit and order one for Kakko, but I'll be staring at his rookie year games almost with the same intensity.

Damned this summer. Can't it be over with already. :D

A bit aside the point but is this franchise going into a full tank mode or do they plan to be competitive as soon as possible? Suppose the future UFA signings will provide some insights to that though.
