Eh, I'm not too sure about this.

I watched 8 of his 10 WC games and would literally just stare at him when he was on the ice, with our without the puck (as long as he was in TV view), and he needs quite a bit of work defensively...as do most 18 year old players. If I had to find one thing he really needs work on it's his defensive play. While he does backcheck, he is very lost at times when play is already in his zone and losing view of his man on a regular basis. He also doesn't really move much from the point man (which yes is his man but sometimes you have know when to be a little aggressive and come off that point to help a bit by the dots).

Like I said, he's 18, and it's not really a knock, but he is far from perfect defensively and I definitely wouldn't consider it at this point one of his good attributes. He will learn.

And yes, it was a small sample size but that's what I gathered from it.

I think you misunderstood his post. I thought he meant that Kakko's linemates should have those attributes.

Oh I agree. That list of attributes are what his LINEMATES need to bring to the table. Not his.

nvrmind! i see it's already been clarified...

Ziba and Kakko could of course work well together.

I think the perfect partner for Kakko though is more or less someone like Sakkari Manninen that he played with at the WCHs. That speedy dynamo type. Someone that can get him the puck.

I feel like the NYR are one of the best organizations for a kid with special dietary concerns to go to. They're pretty highly spoken of in terms of all the accommodations they lay out for players. Seems like they're regarded as one of the best in that dept (which I don't doubt helps pull in FA's for us throughout all these years)

To be fair, most professional sports teams can handle something like T1D and celiac disease. TPS has dealt with it for 5 years with Kakko. I don't think it really matters where he plays

I am responding a bit late in this thread and haven't had the time to read over everyone's comments so if I repeat something mentioned earlier, I apologize in advance. I will be more than happy with either player as our pick, although I just don't see Ray Shero passing on Jack Hughes by any stretch of the imagination, which I am certainly OK with. I do feel, however, that how we move forward after the #2 pick will be dictated by who we get. If we get KK, then the organization will have to truly assess sooner than later if ZBJ is truly that #1 center that will be the solid rock they can count on in making long grinding playoff runs which is truly a commodity in today's NHL. I am still on the fence with him in that role. He is young and still maturing as a player so I don't think a true determination can be made as of yet. They may want to get more looks at Chytil at center to see if this is his more natural role on the team or if he can go further as a winger. OR, maybe some draft day deal is in the works to move up with our second pick to land a Cozens or Turcotte? We just don't know at this point. I wish the draft were tonight, to tell you the truth. June 21st can't get here soon enough.

The great thing about picking 2nd is if Kakko ends up when all is said and done as the second best player in this draft, that's a win for us hands down. If he ends up the best then even better.

If Jack Hughes doesn't end up as the best player in this draft...Good luck with that pressure Jack.

Oh I don't doubt it. Just saying (since some people expressed concern) that we're the place that'll not only have no problem dealing with it, we'll probably deal better than any other franchise.

His English is fine. Nothing alike Bulju. His interview starts about at 2 minute mark.

I tend to view there being two separate conversations, with some overlap. However, I think the lines do tend to get blurred.

The first conversation is which player will be selected first. I have little doubt in my mind that Hughes will be the first player selected. As many people have pointed out, he really hasn't done anything to lose his top position. He hasn't disappointed, he continues to set records, he continues to grow and mature. He's still seen as the top pick, even though Kakko has done an amazing job and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are at least two franchise caliber players in this draft.

The second conversation is which will player will be better. Not necessarily 5 months from now, but five years from now and beyond. In that conversation, I think Kakko could very well be the better player. While my money is still personally on Hughes, I think Kakko has better odds of being the better player than he does of being the first player selected. That's something that I don't think we can rule out quite as confidently, at least not at this point.

For some of us, June 21 comes too soon and too often, especially the past few years.
