This board stopped using the term "franchise" a while ago and I'm not really sure why.

Ovechkin is a generational winger. Kane is a franchise winger. You can win with either as your best player.

And I think that's the real key. For the me the goal is to find a franchise player and multiple stars to play alongside him.

If we can do that, and continue to find depth players, we'll have a great shot at long-term success.

Now legs are a completely different matter. Especially for teenagers and younger players, the difference between lower body and upper body can be almost comical.
There was a main NY Times article recently about how hockey players have clownishly big asses and hamstrings and no clothes fit them. Players give each other tips on stores that have clothes that fit

There were guys who shocked me at how scrawny they were... like Petr Nedved. He was such a skinny dude... I saw him and thought “pffft I could take that guy. I couldn’t catch him I’m sure, but if I did” lol

These guys weren’t wearing street clothes either... this was prior to games, taping sticks or warming up outside dressing rooms or after games during interviews etc.

It was quite a revelation.

Stevens was a VERY, scary lookin dude.

We are one of the better teams in the league at that.

One of the biggest guys was Ken Daneyko. Lots of dudes had those shoulder pads that were huge but he just had ones probably from junior that were plastic shoulder caps on some foam. Not the guy I would want get caught in a corner with. Beuk huge, but chicken legs. Mess and Lowe totally barrel chested. Jagr shockingly big irl. Thought we were about the same size but he had me by like 2 inches and 20-25 pounds right after he lost out on the Art Ross as a Ranger.

Marty McSorley was thick.

Brent Severyn was built like a brick shit house.

Malhotra was pretty big.

Jagr was huge. Lemieux was always a bigger guy.

Richter was much more solid than many realize.

You say "low", I think it's realistic.

It's in line with Kotkaniemi and Barkov in their rookie season as an 18-year old.
I think it’s extremely conservative, and Kakko is twice the player Kotka is.

I would bet a lot on the over if the line is 25 goals. And this isn’t post lottery hype, I would’ve said the same in March.

We always talked about what would happen if we could find that ability with a handful of elite young homegrown talent.

Well, we’re getting closer to finding out.

I’ve said this before, but, what I really like what Gorton has done is focus on adding depth in his trades. Then, he’s been able to target high end players in the draft.

It's just fun to say Kaapo Kakko

Hi guys.
Helloooooo!

Agreed about the name. It reminds me of:

The more time passes and as the tournament progresses and we see Kakko's success, the more I'm thrilled we have #2 rather than #1. Let the Devils make the choice for us. If the Devils pick Hughes and we pick Kakko and Hughes has the better career, all you can say is the Devils had the #1 pick, and that's that; the Rangers have nothing to worry about. For the next decade and a half, the Devils have to constantly ask themselves if they made the right decision with the player they chose. I'd be extraordinarily anxious if I were a Devils fan.

There are scouts who have watched these 2 players in every game they've played for years and arrived at the rankings. Im glad you, however, were able to make a determination that they all got it wrong by watching a few World championship games a month before the draft.

Wouldnt be surprised if Gordie Clark reached out to you with a job offer by the end of the week.

I've heard a lot of stuff but scouts watching every single game of all top prospects? Good riddance. If you truly believe that then I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps start from the laws of the physics? How many scouts reviewed Kakko's entire last season in the ASM, last year for instance, let alone beyond that or was present in the games? The answer is none to a few. Even then we are only mostly talking about the this year.

Let me tell you how it works. Each organization (and most of the scouting agencies) have scouts in both regions, Europe and North America. One faction of scouting department/agency focuses on one region where the other faction follows the other. Of course these factions come together at some stage of the year and has meetings where they come up with what they've reviewed and share notes in order to compile lists to cover first round and beyond (and later the entire year to make it through). There might be a handful of scouts in the world who've watched all the games of both players from the film afterwards, but even that counts to a small fraction of these professionals in total. Still as said, if you truly believe most of them have covered all of the games played from each of these two players, then you're not thinking too logically.

I'd suggest you went back to 2017 for instance. How is it possible that the two first drafted players probably wouldn't even make it to top 2 in a re-draft. Yeah, these experts are human and make mistakes just like every other person. Also while NA gets a lot of attention, they could do a lot better in the Europe and it is rather transparent that the scouts still have some issues evaluating players coming out of top leagues from Sweden and Finland for instance. It could be easily argued that both Pettersson and Heiskanen could/should have been drafted ahead of Hischier and Patrick.
