I think it was good for Kakko not to go to the U18's. Like RangerBoy said , Hughes looks tired.

That said , I really hope the Rangers get Kakko. I think it will be a whole lot better place for him to be , and that's way more important than going first overall.

Kakko would never be on the WCHs team if he went to the U18. He had to win a spot on the roster. Kakko won the U18 last season, think his decision was pretty easy... ;)

I’m opening an investigation on his date of birth. Certificate is not enough - I want personal accounts from doctors and nurses. #Fakenews.

I’m getting more and more concerned with the devils taking him. I’ve grown really fond of getting this kid and if we didn’t I’d actually be upset. I mean we would still end up with Hughes which would be amazing, but I’m really getting excited about Kakko’s style of play.

And then you have the one troll on the genera forums claiming the Devils would take Byram over Kakko. Lol

It's really crazy to see how having the 1st pick in this draft has made some fans so uptight and illogical.
It’s because the teams picking 1 and 2 are New Yorkers and we’ll a crazy bunch. Let’s just make sure we never become as pathetic and entitled as some of these laker fans protesting. My uncle had, my dad had, I got this guy and what has he given me..... cringe worthy

I don’t understand all this arms wringing. BOTH Debs and us are sitting pretty. If I HAD to feel bad, it would be for the Hawks and their fans being so close yet impossibly, unreachably far from ANY chance of getting either JK or KK. That’s where there will be up to 4-5 options and so 80%-90% probability of being wrong. Ouch.

You'd be upset about missing out on Kakko, but not upset if Devils take Hugues and we miss out on him?

If anything, the Devils are in the unenviable situation. They could make a huge mistake letting Hughes fall to us.

It is remarkable to see how much Hughes has fallen in the eyes of some posters on this board. The homerism is running deep here.

You've all convinced yourselves that since for the last month Kakko would be ours at 2.. he somehow now is the better prospect.

Yea I’m growing really fond of Kakkos play and his style, so if we’re being honest yea as crazy as it sounds I’m actually worried about losing Kakko. I’m completely aware of how talented Hughes is and what his projection is. Just being honest about being sold on Kakko.

Whoever the Rangers get, they will be incredibly fortunate. And whoever the Devils select, they will have made a good choice. This is one of those too close to call situations, and any bad outcome would not be the fault of scouting.

Like most people, we're attached to Kakko because that's who we figured that we would end up with at 2. Getting Hughes would also be a home-run. I can't believe we're in this position after everyone complaining for months that we were winning games that we should have lost and we'll never get elite players. We got so lucky.

Personally I've wanted Kakko because I've been starving for goal scorers. For too many years we've seen a team of pass-first players. If we get Hughes, that's fine. Hughes and Zbad will be a nice 1-2 for years. It's a win-win situation.

I'm enjoying all the second-guessing by Devils fans. The Devils will be fine no matter whom they pick, but they will always have that added question of did they grab the right guy? Having 2 top young centers has to be too alluring for them to pass up though.

Totally, don’t totally feel for them though because they jumped so far up the draft board.

It's emotional attachment. As soon as we won #2 and the Devils won #1, everyone mentally had Kakko join the team. So people have been spending weeks justifying to themselves why our guy is going to be better. Not saying they're necessarily wrong, but once you stick emotion into a situation everything becomes more tricky. There's a sense of losing something that is "ours".

... No, maybe they want to give that image, but he always was a lock for that team, just like Laine was. I don't understand why I keep reading this. Jalonen isn't blind or stupid.

Kakko was coasting during the preparation games as if it was a given he'd make the team. And really, it was.
That means the Devils threw out years worth of sample size that had Hughes as the consensus #1 and made a rash short term decision.
"Years of sample size" is absolutely worthless when dealing with players who improve.

Years of sample size is not worthless when it comes to draft night. It was enough to have Nolan Patrick a top consensus pick ahead of Elias Pettersson and actually get N undeservedly drafted before E.

And it was enough to get Puljujarvi drafted ahead of Tkachuk, Keller and McAvoy.

And enough to get Lias drafted ahead of say a Tolvanen.

It is so rare for GM's to stray away from the consensus top pick/picks.
