I just havent watched the hours & hours of tapes & live games that the professional scouts have, so I honestly cant predict, but I have to go with the expert opinion if they claim Hughes is better.

That said, Kakko is more mature physically at this point and has already played in a pro league, so I think he will likely win Rookie of the year.
An argument is valid between the both. But I do give an upper hand to Hughes just based off scouts and clips I’ve seen. I do believe both will be superstar type players.

I don’t think GM’s make such franchise-altering decisions based on relationships.
They do it plenty, but Shero’s relationship with Hughes family has nothing to do with him going 1. He’s going #1 because he’s been hyped for years while Kakko kind of came out of nowhere.

Can’t wait to physically dominate the Devils for years to come.

Even if we end up as equally matched teams, they are going to HATE to play against us. They're so tiny and fragile, and we're going to be so heavy and brazen.

And when it gets to the playoffs, the latter is going to be a difference-maker.

It`s a lot of pressure though in his defense - all know he is #1 pick in 2019 draft this summer. I doubt the draft position will change that much in the next 2 months until draft day - scouts have been talking about him for the last 3 years.

Hughes did his part for @BenedictGomez today by playing like complete ass.

Because he had a few turnovers?
He also created some gorgeous set-ups that teammates didnt cash in on, and he was double & triple-teamed by Sweden most of the time. Not a good game for him for sure, and certainly not by Hughes' standards, but if you say he was "complete ass", it's solely because that's precisely what you "hoped" to see.

But yes, Hughes only scored 1 point today, which isnt as good as the 6 points Hughes scored against Switzerland on Saturday.

He had more than just a few.

And he wasn't very good today at all. Didn't look very engaged at all. A few nice rushes, not much else. Was heavily outplayed by pretty much every other highly touted prospect on his team.

IF you think he wasn't bad today, you're just seeing what you want to see. No one cares what he did in some exhibition pre tournament game.

I thought Norway did well in consider too many are too old, and most of the players play active either in Norway or in Sweden - it was 2-1 in the last 5 minutes until they took out the goalie and Norway had actually some good chances in the end of that game. If Zucc played we won for sure no doubts in my mind - the Findland team was not that great, except Kakko flashes once in a while and what a move by him in the end there, lol - a true wonderkid. :DD

Kakko & Quinn Hughes in the worlds will be fun to watch for sure.

Switzerland, who barely avoided relegation last season, being the second-worst team of the championship. And it being a practice match.

It honestly was quite eye-opening reading the Devils board talk about this game by Hughes. It wasn't very good at all, it's not tough to see. Sheesh. I could easily call Kakko's game meh as it was meh, how is it so difficult for the Devils board to be objective? He should be able to perform far better than this at u-18s at u-18 of age if he's supposed to be a Calder favorite next season.

See what's interesting is that what I had initially as a question mark - Hughes's decision making - has been an issue in both the recent games I've seen by him in the tournament, vs Finland and vs Sweden. It still is u-18 pond hockey and great conclusions cannot be drawn. But he should be outright dominating here, that's my opinion. This should be exactly the sort of a game he should be comfortable with, so that he's having issues even here really makes one wonder.

Who said that? I haven't seen that anywhere.

While the scouting reports say Hughes is the best player in the 2019 draft, they also say Kakko is the most NHL ready.

Kakko should be the Calder favorite next season due to the fact that physically he has developed quickly and has a man's body, and has played in a man's league. Granted, that "man's" league, isnt anywhere near the NHL's caliber, but it should count for something. Read the scouting reports and most acknowledge Hughes has some bulking up and strength-training to do. Only way I dont see Kakko winning the Calder is if someone raw coming out of 2018 takes is, like a Barrett Hayton for instance. That's always a strong possibility given the young age and extra year of experience.

Restrain thy selves! Don't get your knickers in a twist every time someone from another board pops in, this isn't your private clubhouse. If someone is breaking the rules, use the report button, move on, and rejoice in that being the extent of shit you have to worry about on here.

You mean like Vitali Kravtsov?

In reality, Makar/Q Hughes would be my early favorite for the Calder, they’re going to be put in every opportunity to rack up points by their teams

I think people forget just how good Nash was in Columbus. He just never had any semblance of a team around him. If Kakko winds up as good as Nash we've got one hell of a player on our hands.
Yes. But Nash never quite put it all together. He's the Darryl Strawberry of the NHL. There were legit reasons it never came together. But, end of the day, it never really came together.

Edit: with young Nash, I see the kid about whom the teacher says, "if only he apply himself". And then, once he learned how to apply himself, his body started to break down a bit. Still a terrific player. But, like Straw, it could have been legendary.

Not only from the side - he could be generational our only wonderkid on Mika`s line who had an elite center season and almost PPG while rebuilding. If we can get Kreider a 4 year contract I don`t really mind - he is a scorer which we need! And he is 31 after the contract extension - we can`t send all veterans packing! ;)
If I'm the rangers I offer Kreider four years at a generous rate. And Panarin five years at a more generous rate. If either or both say "yes", great. If not, that's fine too. (in Kreider's case, trade him).

FWIW I don't see either Hughes or Kakko being generational players like McDavid or Ovechkin. That said they should both become big stars. To me if you're taking Hughes you're getting a Barzal/Marner/Petterson kind of player and if you're taking Kakko--it's more like a Barkov and if those are your expectations I don't think you're going to be disappointed.

As for who is most ready?--that's almost probably Kakko. As to who will be better?--that remains to be seen but they also might be close enough that it's never really clear. As far as position--to be honest I think both teams would prefer a center over a wing. Me personally I'd prefer Kakko but I'm more of a size matters than some other people.

Trading Kreider now would probably be good asset management..............................but can you imagine trying to take the puck off of him and Kakko as they cycle the puck in the corner?
