I want to hear one poster admit we would have been screwed for tanking had we ended up in the bottom 3 and that playing the season straight now looks sooooo much better than Tanking. We played a honest season and came out with a better pick than most were allowing themselves to hope for

So how about alil objectivity and crow eating and humble pie and just remembering going forward that maybe these guys in the FO are doing things the right way.

Maybe?

Forget a top 10 pick next year. This team is going all in for the playoffs now imo. This accelerates the rebuild big time.

It accelerates the rebuild, but we’re not a playoff team yet. Honestly we’re probably not close still.

After unloading Zucc and Hayes the Rangers were clearly on the downswing. The development of the youngsters + Kakko isn’t enough to make up for that yet. And that’s fine.

But this definitely speeds things up! Still can’t believe it to be honest.

Agree. Hughes and Hirsch is scary but they look very top heavy.

They don’t have what the Rangers have on defense in Miller, Lundkvist, Keane and Tarmo. They have Smith. Plus, the Rangers are adding at least one additional 1st rounder in this year’s draft, if not more.

I don’t think Hischier is better than Zibanejad. They’ll add Hughes, we’ll add Kakko.

I think Hischier will be better. But not by much - I think they line up fairly well.

Smith as a prospect is probably slightly higher than Miller (although Millers potential is way higher). Then it’s like 5 Rangers.

Forward and goalie depth are not close either.

I'd take Smith over Miller.

Post deadline my comment was 'we win when we win and we win when we lose'. To parse that out it was evident we weren't going to the playoffs but I didn't want us not competing and not winning at all. I think the coaching staff and team took the right approach which was to go into every game and try to get the two points. That we were seriously depleted is one thing but we also have a bunch of kids who are our future and you don't want them developing a failing mentality. So we won some games--stole some even and I kind of liked seeing that. I liked seeing them back each other up too--we must have been close to leading the league in fights. We led the league in penalty minutes--we also lost a lot of one goal games or two goal games with empty nets scored against us which are really one goal games. So the Rangers when they did lose were close in most of their games. They were trying all year long--that makes the team a lot easier to like.

I think Hischier probably develops quicker than Zibanejad, but they end up in the same place. NJ will likely have the edge in the top two centers, depending what happens next year. But, make no mistake about it, having anywhere from 9 to 11 1sts over a four year period compared to four is going to skew the talent comparison between the two teams heavily towards the Rangers.

Not to mention 23 year old stud DeAngelo, Hajek and Rykov who they gave us
