Also on the topic of Reaves which is being discussed lately.
Forget all the "this'll curb the stuff on our stars" stuff.
We all know that doesn't fully work.

I, JR and probably alot of core roster players wanted a hammer.
Yea, JR overpayed a bit but he got one of the best hammers in the league. :handclap:

Also Cole, Cullen and Dea need updated in the master post. Just an FYI.

Idc. We just won the cup two years in a row. Don't care if we go in the season with patience or a "we'll see what happens" attitude.

I wouldn't even be bothered much if there is blatant intent to throw this year away in order to put ourselves in a better position for 2018 and onward.

As it stands, i'd put the 3C at:

-Rowney, McKegg or mayyybe Jake
-Next thing i'd say maybe they try and see what they have in camp and a guy like Bluegers, Johnson, ZAR could stick there to start out
-Mayyybe they try a Simon there too. Dunno.
-i do think they'd try every and anything to keep Jake on the wing tho.

Again this is as of right now...

ETA: Yea Byron needs an update as well or erasing if you will.

I'd guess Jay "just a warm body for camp" McClement locks down the 4C spot.

I guess that the third line center will be Guentzel for the start of the season. Ultimately Wilson will take over after Sid and Guentzel struggle after they are separated.

I am fairly certain that Jake will not start the season at 3c....

I don't want him to be our third line center. Rowney and McClement are pathetic offensively, particularly JM.

It'll be Rust or Jake. But you are right, it might not be jake right out of the gate.

Yeah we're kind of a bunch of greedy and thankless ******** aren't we? 2 years ago if I'd said that not only would we win the cup in 15/16, that we'd also win it in 16/17 and that most/many of our young kids/prospects would have taken big steps forward to become impact players... but the downside is having to find a #3C for 17/18 - for which we have a decent amount of cap space to do so...

I think almost every single person on this board would have been somewhere between... "sure, I'm down with that" and "LOL what a crock - never happening".

Definitely. I am completely spoiled by the Pens. It's almost more frustrating now when the team has a glaring hole because I honestly think they could three-peat. I was used to the team entering the season every year with several big holes under Shero. This whole we will eventually deal with the 3C just reminds me of those wasted seasons under the watch of that piece of trash Shero.

I mean, it's not as if JR hasn't filled holes here nicely before. You just have to let him fill the holes and see what happens.

When he first came aboard, there was a lack of high end skill on the wings. He traded for Perron then landed Phil. You can go back and see the timelines there.

15-16, he was in a pretty dire situation. Team looked slow and not well coached. He filled all those holes pretty quickly with Sully, Hagelin and Daley.

JR has actually gone through the process of finding a 3C here already. Sutter for Bones. So i'll just wait and see what he can manage this time around.

I mean some teams out there have top C problems, D problems, skill on the wing problems, G problems and some have a combination of all of these.. JR's pretty comfortable right now, i'd imagine.

Some believe Botterill was integral in shaping the back to back Cup teams. I know he was heavily involved in development but we dunno how much he was involved in the trades.

We'll see just how well JR does without him. I think having Ventura on full time will help JR and company out immensely in terms of trade targets for a really key position, imo.

Wait and see mode. I'll give JR and the new crew a grade on March.1.

Would you guys take a bad contract if it means we get AA? they will probably trade a bad contract with AA because nobody is going to do them any favours. Something like Abdelkader and AA for something of ours. Then we trade Abdelkader+Hagelin to Vegas for a 3C and a guy we can bury in the AHL or something.

It wouldnt shock me if the Pens are waiting to see who is waived at the end of training camp or becomes available from other teams at that time. Its obvious the Pens need another bottom 6 center, but its not a dire need that has to be addressed now. This could easily be fixed at the trade deadline.

Why would we wait untill the TD? prices are sky high. We might aswell write the season off and forget about a 3 peat. The 3C should be done between now and say early December.

Exactly. People seem to forget that a lot of the trades at the deadline are quite costly and it often involve rentals. This needs to be addressed long-term, not some band aid approach. The time to do that was before the draft. It's still possible to do it before the deadline. But then you run the risk of Jimmy making a desperate move waiting until the deadline.

Believe one of these centers will be the 3C via trade, with Bjugstad being the less likely, unless Florida does indeed want to shed salary, he's also someone who has dealt with some injuries, so maybe the chances aren't so low?

Just want to post this for the talk of signing AA, Jason Mackey from PG wrote in his chat that he is "not aware that the Penguins are thinking seriously about trading for Athanasiou"
