For like a one-mile time trial? All-out? Well yup it's hard to say. For me I think 6 or 7 minute mile is good. Not like, championship good or Olympics good or anything, but if you can do a 6-minute mile at any age that's damn respectable. My best 1-mile time trial is 6:17, which isn't too shabby for a 42-year-old. :) Young whipper-snapper like you should be able to blow me away. ;) Elite/world-class runners are around or just below the 4-minute mark.

Note - treadmill times do not count!

I haven't done a 1M time trial, but I've done a 1.5M trial about 3-4 times on a treadmill... which is odd, because that's about the only time I run on a treadmill. The best 1.5M time I've logged was 8:55, but again, that was on a treadmill. I haven't done that in probably 6-7 months, though. Would be curious to see where I'm at now if I were to give it a go.

Yeah, that makes sense. I like running alone, and it's something I'm looking to get into more. I need to learn how to manage a run to get better times. I have like 5 "gears" if you will, it's just I need to manage them better I suppose haha.

Congrats you're a very fit person having 5 gears. That was the hardest thing for me to understand when I went running it seemed I only had one gear, extra slow . After about six months I realized I could slowdown and still call my pace running.

There are many milestones in Marathon running. The first being just finish who cares how long it took. Breaking 4hrs is a big thing for most everyone. Messier and Kyprios didn't accomplish that in their New York Marathons. Obviously 3 hrs is a huge thing and probably only about 2% of marathoners can do that. Than there are the Kenyans running 2hr marathons, world elite.

if you have 5 gears its best to do the bulk of your running in 3rd and maybe once a week in 4th. save 5th for races only. run often 5 or 6.times per week. If you stay within yourself you'll be surprised how often you can go. My personal record was 103 consecutive days of running between 5 and 30km per day, and it was during winter (2009)

Some great responses, thanks guys. And I can't even imagine running 30k in one day. What days those must have been!

Yeah, that's all like reading Chinese to me.

I'm looking for something reasonably priced, hopefully right around $3000 for the frame, pedals, helmet, and maybe a suit.

FWIW, I'm not looking to spend extra money to shave seconds off my time. I'm just looking for a bike that I can comfortably start and finish with.

Have a suggestion on where to read up on the stuff to learn more on it? I've tried before, but every time I look into I just have no idea what they're talking about.

Look up a triathlon club, have a sit-down with someone experienced.

Remember a hydration system for your bike setup budget.

Got a very nice 30 minute run in tonight around my neighborhood. Love that the sun stays up till 7:30 CDT.

I am going to put in a plug for Pilates. It's great core workout and includes some great hip/IT band stretches. I aim for at least one class a week, hoping to get up to two soon.

I am an evening runner. I usually have a cup of Greek yogurt around 5 pm at work, run around 6-6:30 pm. It holds me pretty well.

Need to decide on a 5k to enter. May do a half in the fall. Have to see how my summer goes.

After about 11 days off with my IT Band injury, I think I will try to run tonight.

I'd take it very, very light if I were you.

I took 2 weeks off when I had it, then went for a very light run on a treadmill to test it out (I never run on a treadmill), and it came back about 1/2-3/4 mile into my run.

Yeah... I tried to run down the hall after I left my place and I still felt some pain so I might not.

Anyone have suggestions for mens running pants/tights? Something that I can use below 40F. That temperature seems to be my cut off for covering legs.

I would probably prefer compression type pants. It seems like 2XU is a good choice? Any other brands with experience?

I used a foam roller last night, and today, I woke up with no IT band pain at all. Amazing, what a difference! I may run tonight if this keeps up!

If I were you, I would add in some cross training of some sort for a week or two before getting back to running... or at least running on a treadmill for the extra cushioning.

Have my first half-marathon in 9 days - 2 days ago my leg basically went numb and now I am limping everywhere. From googling and whatnot I guess it's sciatica. FML.

Nice run today, partly due in part to not getting absolutely smashed last night. 11 miles today at a 8:30 per mile pace. Probably could have done better, but forgot my CamelBak.

So after 2 weeks off with my IT band injury, I ran 8km yesterday. I am a little sore this morning but it's soreness, not the pain I was having before.

I wanted to be sure I could do it. I am still sore 2 days later, but it's muscle soreness, I don't really have any IT band pain.

A lot of people think that because the problem is gone, that they then don't need to continue doing what fixed it.

Don't be one of those people.

My pain went away exponentially after using a foam roller, and I still use it all the time... I even have a bruise from using it so much, it just feels amazing afterwards.

Hey guys!

I'm about to start some light running in the near future, but I need some shoes.

I will mostly run on grass, forest floor and stuff like that. They shouldn't be too expensive (<70-80$).

If you need more infos, let me know.
