To be fair to PLD, I can see why he struggled to play well for the other teams. Columbus had torts, Winnipeg is cold/depressing, LA's team style is boring. Whereas Washington has Ovi, it's exciting, there's an energy around them. Kinda like Laine in Montreal. He struggled in 2 of the same teams as PLD, and now he's playing for an exciting team in a building full of passionate fans. The change in environment has really helped these guys.
Maybe it won't last, but it's been a nice resurgence for PLD.
This is an example of the problem I have with stats. I haven't followed PLD since his time in Columbus but you don't have to hit people to be a power forward. Being able to guard pucks, win puck battles on the wall, driving the net, clearing the crease and just imposing a physical presence makes you a power forward. Having lots of hits makes you a 3rd liner. Not even averaging 1 hit a game..41 hits in 50 games …
not a power forward
Before that, the anomaly was him playing for Winnipeg, and before that the problem was The CBJ and/or Tortorella. It's wild he's already tied last season's point total in 32 less games
He's still only 26 though. It seems playing in LA for a season was the anomaly.
He's described as one in the thread title. It seems fair to debate it.Why does anyone care if PLD is a power forward or not?
