The Rebuild

Walter's brother Ken Hitchcock (same neck wattle) has got that horror story in Edmonton playing boring but responsible hockey and getting results. I tuned into Vegas v EDM a couple nights ago expected at least 3 or 4 goals each and was disappointed to witness only 3 total goals (Vegas was on a 5 game win streak). Now their stifling the Stars tonite.. 3 wins in a row giving up 1 or 2 goals and looking the same tonite. Could it just be a hot goalie... HNIC guys were diagramming some of the new things they were doing, so maybe its not just the goalie.
Walter? or Alfred?

So if LA goes through with the rebuild, do they trade Kopitar? And if so, what does LA ask for in return? A couple A-prospects, picks, players?

Kopi and Doughty likely stay unless they ask for a trade.

Trading Kopi depends on who can absorb his contract. Which will likely affect his value.

But if we get some salary coming back, then trading Kopitar wouldn't be a big deal for the other team.

As long as it’s expiring.

Which is, of course, the problem. Nobody is taking Kopitar for one, two, or even three expiring contracts. Nobody wants to deal with his contract until 2024 without equal outflow, and the Kings aren't retaining anything worthwhile until 2024, regardless of how bad they'll be for the next few years, or how much the cap goes up. All of which is assuming Kopitar would even want to leave, and there's no public indication of that, so the scenario isn't really even worth talking about.

PROKHORKIN KOPITAR BROWN
LUFF HUGHES KUPARI
SCHERBAK KEMPE JAD
WAGNER LEIPSIC LEWIS

Iafallo...hmmm. Maybe JAD opens in Ontario and Iafllo third line.

Carter, Toffoli, Hagelin traded by deadline.
And Kovalchuk? I don't know. Guess we will know in a month
or so what becomes of him.

PROKHORKIN KOPITAR BROWN
LUFF KUPARI KAKKO
SCHERBAK KEMPE JAD
WAGNER LEIPSIC LEWIS

Prokhorkin and Sodergran sign. Sodergran to Ontario.

Is that going to reach the cap floor?

Rumors are Kopi,Doughty,Brown arent moving.Mayor has made also comments that Clifford isnt being moved.Bernstein says Quick,Carter and one of Muzzin or Martinez. But roster in general wont look anything like it was this season come Sept.

95% hf chat isn’t necessary to talk about. But that’s what it’s for no?

It's just the Kopitar has a NMC is all. The Oilers could call up and say we want to trade you McDavid for Kopitar and Forbort, and it wouldn't be up to the Kings to say yes.

The only team I see trading for Kopi, that I can see happening, would be a deal with Nashville for Ryan Johansen. Would be a doozy.

No chance the Preds trade a 26-year old Johansen for a wildly inconsistent Kopitar who turns 32 in the next off season.

Johansen looks like a 60 pt player at 26, who gets paid $8m a season. Nashville’s window to win a cup is open now, and their GM hasn’t made a big move recently. You don’t think them adding Kopi would improve their chances? I’m also willing to bet that Anze agrees to a trade to a cup contender.

Nashville has the cap space and RJ has no trade protection. Getting a young #1 center back is a good story for the Kings. Plus Kopis real salary goes down below $10m in 2 years.

Honestly no, I don't think Kopitar would be a difference maker for Nashville. I like Johansen, but I don't see Nashville taking Kopitar and his contract.

Yes it is....having Hughes would make Kopitar the second line center. My bad.

Your over-hyping and ridiculous projections for LA prospects has reached stratospheric levels. You're living in a fantasy world if you think half of what you predict is actually going to happen. Just a little realism would go a long way to improve the rebuild discussion.

The time to do a deal trading Johansen for Kopitar has passed. The Kings should have been looking at this before Kopitar signed his last deal when it would have been Johansen + a 1st/good prospect for Kopitar.

People can scoff at the idea of trading Kopitar back then, but I will let history be the judge.

And I'll still scoff at it because Kopitar's worst year is still = RyJo's AVERAGE year. And if we would have moved him when you said to, he'd likely have a Cup and that MVP season with Nashville.

Go ahead and start a poll and see who people would still prefer--Forsberg-Ryjo-Arvidsson or Forsberg-Kopitar-Arvidsson. Good lord that 2nd one.

RyJo is arguably the worst 1C in the league given he's got one elite winger and another good winger at all times. RyJo and a 30th overall pick wouldn't have helped us any more than Kopitar did.

More like Turris and Bonino for Kopitar. Maybe a conditional draft pick of some sort from the Preds thrown in there too.
