The Rangers lack of depth

Richards and Stepan are pivots suited towards cycling over counter attacking. Pyatt and Boyle are good along the boards, Nash is good at both styles, as is Hagelin.

Nash can be a Crosby type player who can hold the puck for a while and make the other team scramble, creating opportunities. From what I've seen in Richards, I don't know how much I trust him with keeping the puck. He can make some errant passes and odd decisions. Hagelin is most dangerous in the turnover type aggressive game, but I've seen him cycle it pretty well.

Nash is nothing like Crosby. Crosby, as much as I dislike him, sees the ice better than any player In the NHL sans Datsyuk,Malkin,Sedin, and Thornton. We need a real third line on this team.

I meant more as far as being able to control the puck. I don't put any player on Crosby's total overall level at the moment.

haha Nash sees the ice well.. but you knew what he meant.. hes that type of player for our team.. Crosby is by far and away the best player in the league...Noones on his level.. theres no argument there..

but.. i agree with you, our third whether its..
Miller-Boyle-Pyatt or miller at center its bad news.. i dont like pyatt, hes slow, not physical enough for me.. center isn't the issue we need wingers.. i view miller better at center.. we need wingers..

chris neil, ott, Clowe, dubinsky type players for third line..

Disagree. Last year, we had Fedotenko/Boyle/Prust actually chipping in every once in a while. Mitchell was a good puck possession player. I like Halpern and Pyatt, but they're both clearly 4th line players at this point in their career, and they don't replace what Fedotenko and Prust brought offensively.

Starting to agree with that. Prust is a role player and they can be replaced, but he wasn't replaced. Pyatt is good along the wall and has OK hands in front of the net, but Prust was tougher, faster, and a much more intense and intelligent player. He worked beautifully with Boyle. I really miss him, but mainly because Sather did not replace him.

Prust wasn't coming back here even if we gave him 2.5 million. IIRC his girlfriend lives in MTL and she was a big factor in him going there.

Chris Neil won't play here...he has a No trade Clause[or at least he used to have one] so that he can't be traded to NYR ...along with 9 other teams . I guess he either hates NYC or he thinks we are too soft a team to be a part of . Why else would a tough guy want no part of us ??? Tough guys like knowing that they won't have to do it all every night and at least get some help .

No center depth
No true Puck mover
A bottom six combined that has less goals than Johnny Mitchell ( sad so sad. )
A 1C that is being paid like one but playing like a 3C - .
A top 6 RW that has checked out completely and can't score

I cant be hard on the GM. They were first in the East last yr. We all said they need more goals and they go out and get Nash for Dubi, AA.........let Prust go which most agree they should have at the price

they didnt replace the guys but Pyatt has been ok, Asham has been hurt, Haley is doign pretty good right now. Sure they need more depth Forwards but I cant falt them for going and getting Nash

they still can fix this season.

I can't believe what I just read! A Rangers fan stating that "I can't be hard on the GM?? God Almighty, he's been here almost 13 years and has accomplished zilch. When would you like to start being hard on him? In the year 2020???

 all I am saying is the moves all of us would of made were pretty much made

Go get Nash, most would of sent the same package
Let Prust go at that price

I mean most wanted this. Now they need to break out of it. I still think they will

Everyone has been 'looking' for the source of the problem to this rocky start of a season.

One of the main problems thus far is the utter lack of scoring prowess from the bottom 6.

Pyatt: 4 goals, 1 goal in the last 21
Boyle: 1 goal
Halpern: 0 goals
Powe: 0 goals
Haley/Asham/Bickel/Mashinter: 1 goal combined
Miller: 2 goals, coming in 1 game.

This team won't be going anywhere relying on 6 players (Hagelin, Callahan, Richards, Nash, Stepan, Gaborik). The names are good ones, but the Rangers MUST get some semblance of offensive contribution from their bottom 6.

There's seems to be this idea that the "bottom six" must be plugs, goons, defensive specialists, etc.
When we get guys outside of the "top 6" that display offensive abilities, they are discarded as non-torts guys...

The Rangers once again only have 6 players with any ability whatsoever to score (Nash, Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, Stepan, Hagelin).. The bottom 6 is completely useless when it comes to scoring goals. thats the biggest problem we have

Pittsburgh exemplified today why it's important to have depth throughout the lineup. Crosby was kept off the scoresheet but they got contributions from Kennedy and Bennett.

Yes, the underperformance of Richards and Gaborik is a major reason as to why this team is playing so poorly. But it would help if the 3rd line was capable of scoring a goal every now and then. When Gabs was struggling in 2010-11, we had the Feds-Boyle-Prust line in addition to the Pack Line to pick up the slack.

It's not a problem if Nash doesn't score in a game. Or if Richards doesn't create a great goal. Or if Gaborik doesn't score.

The problem comes when all 3 of them are held of the score sheet.

2 forwards have points in the last 3 games. Cally and Step. That's it.

We can't win with that. We moved from being a team that lives on secondary scoring to a team of top line talent that is slumping. Blame whoever you want, but if all 3 of those guys are a non factor, we WILL NOT WIN.

Agreed. Richards and Gaborik need to play to their standards if we are going to win

absolutely... we need them, thats why we're sucking terribly.. step, nash, cally provided all our offense the past few weeks.. gabs/richards need to step up if we're going to finish strong.. i don't think we're a terrible team.. we need consistency and it begins and ends with our top guys... we have glaring needs and everyone knows what we need..but thats no excuse, we're a top heavy team and we should start playing like one.. we have all the pieces..

Ding ding ding we Have a winner bottom 6 need role and don't have them

and I may get flamed for this, but 3 of your 4 best players (Nash is the exception) are having down years, Gaborik and Richards obviously, but so is Lundqvist, this guy is far from the vezina winner he was last year. That is a recipe for a disaster with the way this team is currently constructed.

It just amazes me how older vets like Hossa, Marleau, St. Louis, hell- even Selanne (you could put together a very large list) continue to play at a high level each year but whoever the Rangers sign turn into garbage. Gaborik is relatively young at 31 and Richards is only 32 yet they fall apart with the Rangers, who's next Nash?

It seems to be a foregone conclusion with our big moves. So frustrating

To me, thats why you keep both Gaborik and Richards until after next year. Give them a full 82 game season, Gaborik just scored 41 last year, and Richards was one our best forwards in the 2nd half and playoffs, they didn't just completely forget how to play hockey.

Chris Neil has a no trade to all of the big city markets.

The Rangers need to make many changes this summer. Again. The roster changes over every couple of years it seems.

Anaheim has their top players playing well. Forwards #6-#10. Cogliano has 10 goals. Winnik has 6. Bonino has 5. Palmieri has 7. Beleskey has 5. 33 goals.

The Rangers had the issues with generating offense last season and this season.

Same thing with Chicago. Kane,Toews and Hossa have combined for 41 goals. Sharp and Bolland have 5 each. Bolland was hurt and he has returned. Sharp got hurt last week. Bickel and Stalberg have 6 goals each. Saad has 4. Kruger has 3. Shaw has 6.

Kreider has 5 goals in 7 games since being sent back to CT.. Whats the worst that can happen bringing him back up?

I would like to see us bring some of the guys from the Whale up. Some combo of Ferriero, Palmeri, Segal and Newbury could help us out in terms of depth. Krieder needs to come up NOW and play. The guy has 5 goals in 7 games and has played pretty well it seems. Segal seems to have a lot of heart and hustle, as well as some skill. We saw what Ferriero brought and how he played. Palmieri is someone I'm interested in seeing in up here. The guy is a big body and could help on the third line in terms of getting in front of the net. He also has some skill, probably more than Boyle. I would like to see Boyle and Miller gone though to be honest

Edit: and actually, since making the moves for Ferriero and Palmeri, the whale have played much better. They started poor, but they have been playing much better and are actually in the playoffs right now
