Staal some games is the best defender on the team. Yes, obviously not always, but I know I never say that about Pionk and for sure never about Holden when he was here.

For all the complaints about Staal, I really feel that Pionk is the one dragging that pair down.

My own inner jury is still out on Pionk in the big picture scope, but he can look much worse than Staal, like he doesn't realize he should be making the ultra-safe and dependable play and just see if he can then build from there.

Agreed. Either trying to do too much or think he's better than he is, I'd like to see him go back to the AHL for a bit until after the TDL.

I’m not saying it’s a fact, it’s my opinion. It’s what I believe based on what I’ve seen and comments made and what I read from best writers. The wholen organization loves Pionk and then I see him getting first pair minutes and PP and PK time like he’s Duncan Keith.

How can you be upset at any one person or coach, they were completely inept against a guy who literally couldnt move in front of the net.

Bad hockey team gonna play some bad hockey.

It's way more annoying to single out players.

How am I very wrong though? Pionk has gotten an incredibly long leash despite not progressing and still making the same mistakes he's been making since last season and he gets first pair minutes with Staal 5v5 and gets PP and heavy PK time. Is it really "very wrong" to suggest the organization has a distorted view of the player? All evidence of his performance shows a kid overwhelmed and floundering in the role he's been thrust into but they keep feeding him the same heavy usage minutes.
