You and others care about meaningless wins for a team that has one cup in 80 years... while the Pittsburghs of the world bottom out, are gifted multiple elite talents and reap the rewards.

Be distracted by wins against CAR and Buffalo... then when we play the TOR, PIT, WSH, Tampa etc of the world and are embarrassed and outclassed in every way, don’t complain about our lack of talent. I’m sure those great 2-1 wins on feb 19th will keep ya happy in late April, May and June.

This is the reason the saying exists that 'ignorance is bliss.'

Don't tell me you wish you weren't satisfied so easily by a win in a lost year. Those people probably enjoy life far more than we do.

The planners and schemers in life will get the big payoffs, but often don't enjoy the ride.

The sit back and relax crew enjoys life much more even if they don't get the big payoff.

I'd rather be the latter, but unfortunately I'm the former.

How good is Quinn. The guy just keeps on pumping-up these guys and teaching and engaging. It’s great to see. And btw Carolina played this game like it was the playoffs and got fed a lot. Ignoring the fact that it’s a “tank” season, this team is enjoyable and extremely encouraging.

The whole point of tanking isn't just to get first overall. The whole point is to keep lowering the potential picks we could end up getting.

Being last overall in the league means that the lowest you are guaranteed to pick is 4th overall, should you not get a lottery pick. Finishing 30/31 guarantees lowest pick of 5th overall if you don't win the lottery. And so on.

So, while it's still ~18.5% chance to pick 1OA if you finish dead and that might not seem like much...it's still important to tank just to improve the overall range of where the first round pick will be if it's not a lottery pick.

That’s what gets me. Whether you like any of the players or not, just looking at it objectively the Staal-TDA pairing has been superior in every way yet they keep going back to Staal Pionk. I just don’t get it.

Every time they have tried staal poink since ADA surging into solidarity, staal-pionk has been trash . Quinn has even admitted that ADA is "so talented" where as the best thing I've head about Pionk all season is that "he's coachable"....

Those are not the same terms, they are selectively different and it's for a reason.

I don't think we'll see Staal - Pionk on a regular basis anymore

Also, that is not true and you have to look at 2017 for proof. If we had been able to get a higher pick we'd have Elite Pete or Cody Glass instead of Andersson. That changes so much about this team going forward

I tried telling people this before the season. The Rangers aren’t as bad as people thought they were to start the year. Closer to a bubble team than a bottom team in the league. That’s why I started the season saying that all I want is for the team to work hard, to get glimmers or potential from the kids, and to have a feeling of pride in the group that’s on the ice, independent of roster construction overall. Whether they win or lose is incidental.

The post-deadline team without Zuccarello and Hayes and probably a couple of others... that’s the level of team people thought we had to begin with. But it’s only 20 games. We’re super lucky that there’s so much parity in the bottom half of the WC, otherwise we’d really be locked into the 10-12 range.

That is true but of all the teams we are fighting with the only one going to sell as much or more is Ottawa and maybe Detroit.

The thing is that the other teams doing so are already really bad. You’re not going to see the 7-8 teams fighting for the 2 wild cards in the West making those kinds of moves. Hell, it just came out that the Ducks plan to re-sign Silfverberg.

this team isnt that bad. been saying that all season.

this team competes every night. watch them, theres no tank in this bunch.

were probably alot closer to being good then we are to being at the bottom. not buying for a second that this team could ever be bottom 5 this season.

last night vintage henke showed up, stole a game we should have lost.

hoping we suck enough so that we get lucky and draft hughes or kakko is laughable. never going to happen. the idea this team needs to be burned to the ground is a dangerous folly that will set us back for years.

The players want to win. They're playing for their livelihoods, future contracts, and personal pride.

The coach wants to win. It's his first season in the league and the axe could come for him at any time if he doesn't deliver.

The GM is the only one in this equation that really has a different agenda, but what can he really do? He's infusing youth. He's trading away expiring contracts. He's putting the team in a position to lose. They just aren't failing as hard as they should. On the other hand, most of our trade bait players are helping to carry the team, and increasing their trade value. Hank and Georgiev are stealing us points. Hank doesn't want out.

It worked for the Hawks, Kings and Caps. Pretty much the only teams to win anything recently.

The only one of that group it definitely worked for was Chicago.

LA is debatable.

Washington won the Cup more than TEN YEARS after they "tanked". It was more roster moves after they got really good players. They had "elite" talent and were getting beat in the second round regularly by Pittsburgh and the Rangers. They weren't exactly drafting high to get the players they needed to compliment Ovechkin.
