The Playoff Push, Tanking and Scoreboard Watching Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'm not as worried about the Canucks as I am about the Flames. Calgary has played 3 less games than us as of today.
Yeah, Calgary is our biggest challenge right now. I'm getting ready to eat some crow but about a month ago someone on here said Minny was going to fall so far in the standings they might drop out of the playoffs and we'd get their spot. I said no way that happens and scoffed. As unlikely as that seemed back then, it's not unfathomable now. We are really close to catching them.

No matter the outcome, this has been entertaining hockey and I've really enjoyed the high pressure / high intensity games. I've also really enjoyed watching our youth develop and amp up their games. Heres hoping for a strong finish and a playoff ticket. Go Blues!!!

Nothing would make me happier than both the Blues and Flames making it and the Wild on the outside looking in.

Minnesota are pulling a Winnipeg given their current free fall and losers of three straight, although you can hardly blame them with the injuries to Kaprizov and Ek, the Hartman suspension, and GusBus reverting to the mean. I wouldn’t be surprised if they struggle to even hold on to the WC2 spot by the end of March.

I'll humble brag on this one! Although in all fairness there were a few others sounding the alarm too. I don't have many good takes, and this one may still turn out to be wrong if MIN manages to hold on to a wild card spot, but the cracks have been there for over a month for them. Brodin came back over the weekend but missed last night's game with an LBI. They really can't catch a break since Christmas, and I almost feel bad for Wild fans...almost.

It's the lack of regulation losses with Calgary that has me concerned. They keep stacking points. We just have to accumulate as many points as possible and hope for the best.

here's to hoping calgary goes on a losing streak to end this month. they've got tougher competition, but keep rising to the occasion too.

the blues are riding a six game streak, not playing great of late, and due for a loss. montreal is the perfect opportunistic team to take it to them and that's why their battling for a wild card spot in the east now.

Jesus, could the Devils and Islanders be any more useless for our playoff chase? Ha. Some epic 3rd period chokes.
Markstrom hasn't had it since he came back form injury and has allowed 3+ goals in each of his last 6 starts . Unfortunately for us they have him/Allen alternating starts and went with Markstrom against Calgary and Vancouver. They are clearly trying to get Markstrom going for playoffs and they still have a 7 point cushion on the 4th place team in the Metro (although they've played 2 extra games). They play Minnesota twice in the last 3 days of March, so hopefully they get competent goaltending in at least one of those games.

I guess that explains why Markstrom lost his shit after giving up the GW shootout goal.

Ya ya, these things tend to even out (though CGY had not had a single comeback win before the 3/22 game since October) over the course of the year but for those playing along:

3/20 - Blues give up game tying goal to Boeser w/ 3 seconds left to gift Vancouver a point
CGY scores w/ 4:10 left in regulation against NJ and wins

3/22 - CGY scores w/ 2:22 left in regulation to tie NYI and wins

3/23 - VAN scores w/ :36 seconds left in regulation to tie NJ and wins

(Yes, I'm intentionally omitting Vancouver outshooting NYR 3 to 1 and losing on Saturday :)
