OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

Well put
For the past like 6 years we've heard "we're gonna run the ball and be like the Steelers of the past".
Well they keep drafting bad players on offense that doesn't fit their scheme or are malcontents.

I still believe Pat Meyer is a huge problem. I've seen nothing from a development standpoint on the line that screams his guys are getting better. But of course they won't fire him bc his contract isn't up. What a pathetic limp dick franchise this has become.
Myer job comes down to Jones. The other 4 guys are solid and McCormick and Frazar like him. The room lacks a leader.
It’s tough to build the offense without continuity at the oc. Smith is an outside zone guy Najaee was drafted before him and didn’t fit.
Atlanta had the same issue when Smith left they had an entire o line built for a zone blocking scheme rb comfortable with it. Kirk came in the ran they hired Robinson as oc and he is 3 wr 1 te guy with pistol instead of under center play action. Kirk had never had success in offense without play action under center

That's the head-scratcher in all of this. Most of the moves this offseason were "let's not take 2025 seriously since we don't have a QB. We'll accumulate all these draft picks so we have ammo to move up and down the board next draft"

Well I have no idea what he'll cost, but we've now got a couple rumors these past few days that the Steelers may be giving up draft picks for Cousins and now potentially Junnu.

It's like the Penguins: pick a damn lane and stay in it. Fans may not like it, but they'll understand/respect your process.
Well, they are just rumors to this point. We'll see if they actually go through with anything.

As I've argued on here many times, those questionable moves were all under Colbert. Under Khan, there has been more focus on drafting high character guys, rebuilding the trenches (where bully ball is actually won or lost), and he's traded away 3 malcontent WR.

With Meyer, I don't know. I can't say I've been thrilled with the results, but again, how much is personnel/injury related? Moore is a 4th round LT. There is only so much juice you can squeeze out of a rock. Seumalo was kind of a disappointment I guess. Frazier was great. Daniels was one of the best G in football until he got hurt. McCormick getting forced into action as a 4th round rookie was not ideal, but I thought he was OK all things considered. Fautanu, albeit brief, was looking like a real difference maker. Jones started rough, but got better throughout the year playing his on his off side. This year will be very important for him.

I'm not saying you're wrong for questioning him, but if things worked out differently, Jones-Seumalo-Frazier-Daniels-Fautanu could have been very different.

For me, this year is Meyer's prove it or lose it year. It's a fair point the raw material hasn't been great to date and only so much can be expected from rookies. Well, on paper, any OL coach worth their salt should get something done with this group and he's got the continuity advantage.

I'd guess the Pats with Gronk and Hernandez would be the most successful example (although I don't know for sure they meet the criteria).

I don't hate the idea of bringing in another TE like Smith TBH. I know people on this board hate the idea of bully ball, but having a bunch of big bodies that are capable of blocking and receiving could cause matchup issues.

My problem is that he is 30 years old and coming off an outlier of a good season. Not sure it's repeatable and repeatable when we will actually care about it to give up draft capitol.
I think you are forgetting about that "Brady" dude...

They have absolutely no clue what they are doing; they throw crap up against a wall and hope it sticks.

Giving up picks for anyone besides a franchise QB between now and next year's draft is an exercise in stupidity. They aren't winning anything this year anyway; build up for the next contention window. No more of this half-ass garbage.

I do wonder at what point the front office goes "okay, yes or no, right now".

Personally I'd be on the edge of it. He's a short term bandaid who's not going to do a whole lot to progress the cause and at this point, I'd value setting a new rule of "we want total commitment no exceptions" over holding out for the questionable boost that Rodgers gives over Rudolph.

But I guess they're still willing to make exceptions for talent, and still chasing that extra bit of juice from every season, so...

*shrugs* We'll see. Have to say, I find the situation keeps reminding me that this is a pretty unlikeable feeling iteration of the Steelers.

Tuesday, June 10th

They don’t go to Saint Vincent til end of July I don’t think Rodgers decides before then
Total conjecture but I don't think the Steelers want to wait that long. Well maybe not total conjecture because Rooney has dropped some hints a while back. Mandatory mini camp is a pretty big deal as that's when teams begin to install their playbook.

Showing up a day before camp is not ideal, even for a 20 year vet.

Smith playbook is very similar to Laflurr playbook that Rodgers ran. He could already have the playbook for all we know. The wr in house all know the playbook except DK. DK and Muth have been watching film and Muth is explaining the concepts of when stuff is called to DK.
Him showing up will take away from the TJ hold in on August who will just do individual drills to avoid fines until he gets his money.

We don't have a QB and people are tired of the head coach, but otherwise I think the team as a whole is likeable enough. Rudolph is a guy who is pretty easy to root for given how his career has gone and how he has handled it all without complaint but just continuing to work hard.

I find it very hard to believe that the Steelers would give a playbook to someone who is not on the team.
