OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

Wouldn't even care about the pick if it's a 5th or less, but the cap makes it a no-go for me. Even if it's not crippling to cut him after this year, what's the point? Why take on dead cap for 2026 to still not win anything significant in 2025? And yes, I realize the answer is NHALS more than anything meaningful.

I am not sure if he is completely recovered from his injuries. Or if he has enough skills if he is. But now I know that he doesn't have a lot going on upstairs.

I feel like the first and last sentence are mutually incompatible. Either Cousins is a serious step up and upgrade from Rudolph, or he isn't. Which is half of my thinking here - I also think that it's no longer clear Cousins is any more either.

The other half is this roster isn't going very far regardless of whether its Cousins, Rodgers, or Rudolph. There comes a point where all this scrambling to try and find an extra bit of something out of this when the end result will be much the same is just emotionally exhausting. I know their job isn't just go "whatever, we'll pick one to make the fans" happy, but it feels like if they did that it'd have the same outcome.
I don't think so. The difference between Mason getting hurt and Cousins getting thrown in v. Howard...there is a bit of a difference there I think. Now they may be cool with Howard being slightly sheltered. I think Howard is going to pick up the offense faster just because he's in a way different spot than others who have come in here.

I also just believe in Howard. If he fails it will be like Pickett - he just wasn't good enough.

Okay, fair point about the depth.

Although after about the halfway mark, I'd be okay with going straight to Howard. I'm not sure it will be good for him - I don't think think this team is set up for QB success at all, just like it wasn't when Pickett was there too - but most of the outcomes there help the team.

A guy like Rodgers, Cousins, or even maybe Rudolph may be savvy enough to work through the WR situation here, but I'm not sure I want to see a rookie do that again.

I’m all for trading Pickens but get someone else for Christ sake. There is no WR2 on the team.

Another year of no WRs and a crap QB. The new standard.

"That's a joke. That to me is just a joke," Bradshaw said. "What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there."
Respectfully, who gives a shit what Bradshaw thinks anymore. Guy is senile and embarrasses himself on TV every week.

Depends on your definition of a transition year. I am all for a 6-10 season so we can draft Ben again Not sure TJ Cam and the fans can stomach that. Kirk had 1 td over like 6 game stretch and wasn’t healthy he isn’t an upgrade. Rodgers is no different than RW for a 1 year stop gap
As much as I don't want Rodgers, giving up assets and paying part of his salary/cap hit for Kirk Cousins would be even dumber. Mid 30s in age; beaten up injury wise; he wouldn't be any better than Mason Rudolph.

Just go with Rudolph/Skylar Thompson/Will Howard and move on. They'll need an extra arm for training camp.

There are a handful of guys available who are every bit in the Skylar Thompson mold. Heck bring in Ridder if Smith wants to (although maybe we already would have).

Hopefully a sign he's motivated and working hard.

Although, I'm a bit confused about gaining weight during the season. Is that normal?

Wentz, Bridgewater, and Huntley are still available. Would be cheap, short term, accepting of a backup role, allow them to (likely) redshirt Howard if that's what they want, and if Howard impresses and jumps over them on the depth chart, who cares? And for them, there's probably not a better situation in terms of potentially getting in some games.

We already have two back up QBs - we need a #1 QB

I thought the same thing. It's pretty well documented that players have to meticulously manage their diets through the season just to keep the weight on.

Everyone's different, though. Maybe Jones is just a guy who's been the opposite in that he struggles to keep weight down through the season.
