OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

It's funny how much hate Rodgers gets for wacky political / life views relative to the plethora of current and former NFL players who have committed actual heinous crimes. Like Tyreek Hill is literally a wife/gf beater but the amount of hate he gets is almost non-existent. Ray Lewis for another example. Rodgers seems to be a cocky douche, but give me a cocky douche over a felon any day of the week.
Felons being in football isn't going to stop me from hating on an idiot who says idiotic things.

This is from a friend of a friend so take it for what it's worth:

The deal on the table is Cousins for a 5th and the Steelers eat any money to Cousins after 2025.

That's secondhand from "a source in the Falcons organization", who says it's the backup plan if Rodgers doesn't sign.

I can believe it's the back-up plan.

And I won't gripe too much if it comes to pass. But at the same time, I would be thinking what's the point.

So they'll give up a pick and eat a bunch of money for Cousins after balking at Fields for $20mm. Got it. I like cousins even less than Rodgers even with all his baggage so I'll continue to hope Rodgers comes around for minicamp. But oh boy could this off-season have been much less annoying if they'd just sat down with Fields and given him the money and assurance he was looking for.

The Steelers wouldn't be eating much money on Cousins as far as I can tell. He only has $10 million in guaranteed money for 2026, with $90 million in guarantees between the signing bonus, 2024 and 2025 salaries. If the Steelers trade for him and cut him after a year, I'm not sure they'll have anything more than the $10 million in dead cap for 2026 from doing that. Which is pretty whatever if he's not costing much money this year.

They'd be "on the hook" for any money owed after 2025 if they decide to keep him, which is actually a pretty sizable chunk of money that I figure they'd either opt out or restructure his deal.

I think these rumors prove the team is not intentionally trying to have a transition season, but this is Omar Khan trying to field a good team. You don’t sign/acquire Rodgers or Cousins if you aren’t trying to compete.

Hopefully the whole leave Khan alone, this is a transitional season BS stops.

Makes the team much better for only a 5th. That is so much money for a meh QB though. I really don't know if Cousins now do much more than Mason.

I’d rather just roll with Rudolph and eventually give Howard a few games over bringing in Cousins.

I guess with Cousins you can kind of hope he can regain some of his form another year removed from the Achilles injury. He also apparently picked up a shoulder injury during the year.

Agreed and add Rodgers in where it says Cousins as far as I'm concerned.

The one plus I can see from Cousins is that he'll be a bona fide professional and perhaps a good mentor to a ton of younger guys on the offensive side of the ball. We have Art Smith and that's it teaching these kids.

I don't trust Tomlin nor any of his merry band of idiot position coaches to teach these guys anything of value on offense.

Remember when Pittsburgh was the City of Champions?

Me either.

It has been quite a few years of Pens and Pirates trying not to lose too much (regular season) rather than win and whatever the hell they are doing over at PNC Park other than baseball.

Hope that you enjoyed the good times. I see no light at the end of any tunnels leading into Pittsburgh.

I feel like the first and last sentence are mutually incompatible. Either Cousins is a serious step up and upgrade from Rudolph, or he isn't. Which is half of my thinking here - I also think that it's no longer clear Cousins is any more either.

The other half is this roster isn't going very far regardless of whether its Cousins, Rodgers, or Rudolph. There comes a point where all this scrambling to try and find an extra bit of something out of this when the end result will be much the same is just emotionally exhausting. I know their job isn't just go "whatever, we'll pick one to make the fans" happy, but it feels like if they did that it'd have the same outcome.

2017 feels like three years ago so I'm feeling pretty good

Depends on your definition of a transition year. I am all for a 6-10 season so we can draft Ben again Not sure TJ Cam and the fans can stomach that. Kirk had 1 td over like 6 game stretch and wasn’t healthy he isn’t an upgrade. Rodgers is no different than RW for a 1 year stop gap

Not even sure Cousins wants to be a mentor

Ah the 2010s...

- $30 cheeseburgers and truffle fries with aoli served by bearded men in flannel
- Stomp clap folk songs
- women wearing skinny jeans
- Killer Bs, Pens winning cups, and AJ Burnett pirates
Hey now I'll take stomp clap hey over billie eyelash mumble whisper.. and skinny jeans over the current mom jean poopy pants style lol
