The thing is...we saw it on the field with Pickens.
I don't really care to argue whether Tomlin could have done a better job of managing him, but is it really that hard to believe Pickens was showing up to games late when he puts it out there for the whole world to see on Sundays?
Dude's a headcase. If someone can get through to him or at least keep him happy enough he doesn't cause too many problems, they are going to have one heck of a WR. But he's always going to be a headcase.
I don't care if he was traded, I don't like the same excuses every time. He wasn't someone that had off field issues like Brown, or thought he was great and was ass like Claypool or a whiny baby that walks off and mails it in like Diontae. He was mostly pissed with how he was used and he has a legit case for that.
Arthur Smith was an absolute shit OC imo, there were far too many times he wasted drives trying to run through a wall that wasn't working and then would finally give in to throwing the shit out of the ball but by then, you're not even in a rhythm as a QB so you're prone to interceptions and the other team is going to read that shit and cover the not so many targets the team had last year.
Also, he got f***ed over a ton for interference calls and he was pissed, this is when a coach is supposed to pull the lad aside and get him in line to relax, but instead he just let him escalate to shoving matches with the other team. That's on a coach, imo. If you can't reign in players and you trade them away every f***ing time, that doesn't really say you are the right bloke for the job for a team that is trying to build a winner and will be doing it with young players coming in that need to make an impact and if you can't guide them and lead them when they have some issues, you likely f***ing suck at your job mate - like Mike does.
I don't think George was someone that wasn't fixable. I think a good off season with sitting down and getting him to buy into the DK and GP duo meaning both will be used a lot to make plays and make it hard for the other team to watch both, now they're hoping Roman "IR" Wilson is actually something and Calvin Austin from the shire is going to have his glow up. I don't dislike either of those players btw, but it's just one shit show after another. I don't hate Pickens at all, I hope he thrives and shows he can mature and had the Steelers given him some better guidance, they could have had what Dallas is going to get, that's what I am expecting out of GP in Dallas. I don't think he's going to flame out like Brown or Johnson or be a crippled mess like Juju (he was done dirty under Tomlin too, as well as garbage OC's).
It just sucks, in 2020 he f***s up big (2019 was just a mess of a draft year too, Devin Bush lol) with wanting a WR with very little time left for Rapelisberger and no succession plan that they were comfortable with because Ben was his usual loser self towards Rudy, Tomlin then treated Rudy like shit (then for some reason Rudy comes back, still don't understand that one) and it was clear in 2020 that Tomlin was never going to give Rudolph a fair shot so why the f*** even take Claypool over Hurts that year? I will never understand that move, it starts with Tomlin wanting a WR instead of a f***ing QB when they should have drafted a QB, so they whiff on Hurts. Then they get Kenny Small hands and he's now on his 3rd team and likely a 4th team soon. Now GP is also gone for a 3rd and the cycle just keeps continuing, they don't want to fix it, they just want to keep kicking the can down the road until someone is able to just be just dumb enough to be Tomlin's type.
At this point, keeping TJ Watt is moronic. There's no reason at all to keep him. Rodgers isn't going to do anything for this team that makes maximizing the best years of Watt's worthwhile, at 41yrs old (42 in Dec), yeah definitely not. Let's remember, Russell Wilson's mobility wasn't all that great, Rodgers is worse, they needed a bloke that can move like Fields.
I'm just so f***ing annoyed. At least the Pens now have some light at the end of the tunnel, not sure what the Pirates will do but I am sure Nutting will f*** it up like he always does, but the Steelers, holy f***, they latched on to mediocrity being mistaken for success under Tomlin harder than the Pens did with Sullivan the last 7 seasons.
