OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

Came in to the season with needs at:

QB
WR
RB
DL
Outside CB
Slot CB
Safety kinda

Going into next offseason with needs at:

QB
WR (probably 2)
OG (maybe 2)
Outside CB
Slot CB
Safety if they don’t re-sign Elliot
And maybe add tackle and RB to the list depending on how Jones performs and if they re-sign Warren.

They’re gonna have picks and cap space but yeesh.
Thing is, those were all going to be needs going into next year regardless because...despite the organization, media, and fans not willing to admit it out loud....they are rebuilding.

They have the slot cb and I think Castro will be good in the Eliot role. They have depth at iol but yes they were going to draft a guard with Issac leaving. Warren went undrafted they will be fine at rb.
I do wonder if they extend Ca3 and then you just need wr 2. Cb2 is going to be drafted next year

I think the trade makes total sense in the context of the Steelers throwing out this year and considering it a loss, which does make me believe the "Rodgers is retiring" talk a bit more personally. The return they got for PIckens is better than the comp pick they would have gotten, but if Rodgers was going to sign, I still think they would have kept Pickens and just taken the 2027 comp pick for him. I think them selling Pickens now for a guaranteed 2026 pick shows that they're punting on this year, which I don't even think is a necessarily "bad" decision.

I'm just really irritated they didn't draft a WR if they were thinking about trading Pickens. Taking Sawyer in round 4 when you knew that Pickens was a real threat of getting traded looks completely moronic. Even if Wilson pans out, he's just replacing Austin. You flat out need a future WR2 and you have no one in the system that even projects to be that.

So our WR room is essentially what it was last year only we are paying a lot more for it and turned this year's 2nd round pick into a 3rd next year. I don't see the point. If they are going this route then they shouldn't have bothered trading for DK or pursuing Rodgers, they should have traded Watt and Minkah, and they should have drafted some WRs. I don't mind planning for the future at all but this half-assed approach makes no sense.

I think this was just about preferring DK to Pickens long-term. Pickens has been causing problems ever since he was drafted and I don't think the Steelers wanted to pay him.

Sure but Pickens didn't cost big money or a 2nd round pick this year. Also, DK has had his diva issues as well. I don't get the point in bothering with DK just so we can basically be in the same situation as last year with only one legit WR. Either try to compete this year or punt on it for the future. This half-assed route isn't doing anything good.

I don't think the money particularly matters, Metcalf is making $18 million this year and his 4 year, $30 million a year deal kicks in next year. Pickens wouldn't have cost that much different.

They basically swapped Pickens and a 2nd for Metcalf and a 3rd, mostly because they just seem to like Metcalf more. I do think Metcalf is better so I don't really have an issue with the swap. I have an issue with not planning on drafting a WR if you knew you were also going to trade Pickens.

Perhaps they have a lot more faith in Roman Wilson being an impact player this upcoming season? I don’t think the WR room is as bad as others are making it out to be, but I’m sad to see Pickens leave and even sadder by the return.

its fine to admit you were never going to sign pickens post acquiring dk, but its hard to believe that only after the draft anyone offered a 3rd

I think DK is a more stable (although still with his own issues) but less talented WR who runs fewer routes. Whatever. I just don't see any actual plan for this team. If it's about loading up for next year's draft to get a QB then they need to trade Watt and Minkah. Embrace the rebuild. Stop with the one foot in and one foot out approach.

I hope you’re right. Team beats pretty much made it seem that he was a bust.
