OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Ploff wins?!? Fire Tomlin

Even Edelman gets it. And he's a dolt.

He's also a pervert. But pervs can be right occasionally.

"Starkey: It should be Rooney II, but he has given Tomlin so much power that the answer at the moment is Tomlin. As Adam Schefter recently pointed out, Tomlin has the most powerful voice in the organization. It’s his baby."

Well, there's proof. This is Tomlin's team, and Tomlin's team hasn't done squat since Cowher's coaches and players left.

Re Something on the last page -

Does anyone have a source on Tomlin working less than other coaches in the NFL?

Sorry, but ARII is the most powerful person in the organization. He owns the team, he can make any change that he wants.

No if Art wanted him gone he would not have gave him the extension
If Art wanted changes he would have done the same thing Philly did fire the oc and dc and give more power to the gm. He would have said you have to hire a McCarthy as a vbrael type and solak as a passing coordinator and brought in a rpo specialist for Fields like Washington did for Daniels

I am beyond confused as to how that's a response to Jiggyfly's post that starts with the word no.

If you don’t think AR2 is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome with Tomlin, you haven’t been paying attention the last 15 years.

Psychological response wherein a captive begins to identify closely with his or her captors, as well as with their agenda and demands.

As Adam Schefter recently pointed out, Tomlin has the most powerful voice in the organization. It’s his baby.

There is no leader. Art2 isn't a leader - he looks to others for advice and the guy he goes to the most for advice is Mike. Thems are the facts, and until AR2 is out, that won't change. The benefit Little Dan has is he has worked all throughout the organization and with the NFL, so he has contacts everywhere for advice. That is when I believe this ship turns.

I doubt any actually exist. I promised myself not to get involved in any more of the Tomlin discourse but I just don’t understand why everything has to turn into a conspiracy with him. I don’t doubt he tries hard. I don’t doubt that he wants to win. He just hasn’t done a very good job on it.

You were the first person to make me aware of DMR about a year ago.

He’s where I’ve found hope things will change and he will be like his namesake, not his weak willed father.

What's en vogue in the NFL changes every so often. Now it's having a running game. Not that long ago it was QB's slinging the ball 60 times a game. It doesn't really matter to me, but I think constantly chasing the trends is a road to nowhere. Have a vision and build towards that vision. I'm fine with whatever that looks like.

However, there are some things that never go out of style. 1. Good QB play (obviously). 2. Winning the line of scrimmage. And what I think gets lost a lot, 3. Being well rounded. You can say you want to be a running team, but when the other team has a good defense and loads up the box, you need to be capable of throwing the ball, too. Exactly what the Eagles did to the Steelers. You can say you want to have a great defense, but you are eventually going to need to score points, too. Look at the Chiefs. 4th best defense in the league, but they needed to score 30+ to beat the Bills. It's the oldest saying in the book. Can't put all your eggs in one basket.

For the Steelers:

1. QB Play : I think they know this. Everyone and their mother knows this. It's just easier said than done and I don't think Tomlin knows how to develop a QB.

2. Line of scrimmage : They forgot this for a long time, but I think Khan has taken some big steps in addressing it. Cautiously optimistic.

3. Well rounded : A little more up in the air on this one. Khan obviously failed miserably giving them a chance at a decent passing game with the WR situation this year, but I think he realizes it and that's why he was hard after a few guys throughout the season. Somewhat hopeful there. However, they had the highest paid defense and their biggest FA signing was a MLB.

I’m still very baffled about why they decided to just not spend any available money on WR but I think they’re tracking alright here. The reason their offense was so cheap is because it’s filled with guys on their rookie deals (I think 11 of their last 16 day 1 and 2 picks have been on offense) and their QB was getting paid 40 million by another team.

I think Khan's logic on WR was all or nothing. Get a big star to make things really dangerous or keep the money at home. Eventually bent and got Williams for cheap rather than do nothing and honestly, should have probably just did nothing but oh well. I can respect the logic. I have questions about the execution but the logic, sure, not horrible.

Tbh, 90-95% of their logic seems fine. Just there's a few devils in the details and a long history of shoddy execution that's dug a bit of a hole.

Here's the thing.

Tomlin and Art are in lockstep. Art loves Yinzer football and Tomlin is doing what his boss wants from a player selection, development and general gameday approach. I can't speak whether MT was malleable from the hop when he was hired and Art made him this way OR if Tomlin was ingrained with this philosophy. Regardless this is the kind of football Art wants.

So to fire or criticize Tomlin would be an indictment of Art himself.
How many people that are that rich and have a massive ego are capable of self-reflection?
I'd probably say less than 1% and Art isn't part of that group.

I agree with you, but I think you need to understand Khan a bit better. He is all about "value".

He didn't think the cost associated with Aiyuk was worth the capital PLUS extension. He flirted, but if he really wanted the player it might have happened.

They thought they addressed WR2 with the Wilson pick, but "moving trains" and all that bullshit was just that: BS.

They got Mike Williams for cheap and Khan saw value with that trade. It's too bad the pieces they did give Art Smith he didn't use or completely misused. Van Jefferson getting a billion snaps was comical.

There have been stories that Tomlin was working on film not not long after the current game ended. Not sure I buy this one.
And I am in no way are Tomlin supporter.
We don't live in our fears? He's had residency for probably close to 10 years now.

Completely idiotic how they used Williams. Yet it's not surprising.

Please tell me that DMR hasn't named his oldest son Art.

Maybe it's giving him too much credit, but I honestly think Khan is rebuilding and then kinda just slapping shit together where he can to appease Rooney/Tomlin's desire for NHALS. Russ for league minimum? Sure. Fields for a 6th? Why not. Queen wants to come here and play on a team friendly deal that we could easily get out of? Fine. 9ers want to give us a (relative) deal on Aiyuk? Great. They/he want/s more than that? Beat it.

Like I said, I'm still iffy on that. Time will tell, but he seems to at least have a plan to rebuild the lines. He will eventually need to pony up one way or another for the skill positions, but I'm 100% on board with building inside-out.

Tbh, 90-95% of their logic seems fine. Just there's a few devils in the details and a long history of shoddy execution that's dug a bit of a hole.
Their logic towards the end of Colbert's time was dogshit.

I think Khan's logic so far has been good-to-great, but like I said, he will need to finish it off over the next 2-3 seasons before I'm fully on board.
