I agree with you, but I think you need to understand Khan a bit better. He is all about "value".

He didn't think the cost associated with Aiyuk was worth the capital PLUS extension. He flirted, but if he really wanted the player it might have happened.

They thought they addressed WR2 with the Wilson pick, but "moving trains" and all that bullshit was just that: BS.

They got Mike Williams for cheap and Khan saw value with that trade. It's too bad the pieces they did give Art Smith he didn't use or completely misused. Van Jefferson getting a billion snaps was comical.
You can be about value but you have to have a fall back plan. He chased wr 2 for a year he was trying to get debo or aiyuk at the draft. He went after kirk but he got hurt. Williams was plan D. He was brought in because they were doing better then expected. None of the wr who were traded for at the deadline did much for their new teams. The jets new khan was desperate and took a pick for a guy that was the 4th option ok the jets.

Maybe it's giving him too much credit, but I honestly think Khan is rebuilding and then kinda just slapping shit together where he can to appease Rooney/Tomlin's desire for NHALS. Russ for league minimum? Sure. Fields for a 6th? Why not. Queen wants to come here and play on a team friendly deal that we could easily get out of? Fine. 9ers want to give us a (relative) deal on Aiyuk? Great. They/he want/s more than that? Beat it.

Like I said, I'm still iffy on that. Time will tell, but he seems to at least have a plan to rebuild the lines. He will eventually need to pony up one way or another for the skill positions, but I'm 100% on board with building inside-out.

Their logic towards the end of Colbert's time was dogshit.

I think Khan's logic so far has been good-to-great, but like I said, he will need to finish it off over the next 2-3 seasons before I'm fully on board.

Plausible, but hard to say for sure, and in any case prone to being overridden. See the end of Colbert's time where he wanted to cut ties with Ben but Rooney didn't so Ben had one more season. Investing big time in physical football and being reluctant to spend in FA are good Steeler traditions so I doubt Khan is running into any argument there. Hell, for all we know Rooney set some limits on spending that Khan would rather do without; maybe Khan would have preferred to offer Aiyuk over 28m and get the guy rather than walk away empty handed.

And maybe not. They do a very good job of obfuscating who does what so who knows for sure.

Please tell me that DMR hasn't named his oldest son Art.

I f***in hope not.

Maybe as a middle name.

Then go for something else as a first, like, I dunno, Francis. Or Finn.

I just want there to be a Fart Rooney, thank you and good night.

Here's the thing.

Tomlin and Art are in lockstep. Art loves Yinzer football and Tomlin is doing what his boss wants from a player selection, development and general gameday approach. I can't speak whether MT was malleable from the hop when he was hired and Art made him this way OR if Tomlin was ingrained with this philosophy. Regardless this is the kind of football Art wants.

So to fire or criticize Tomlin would be an indictment of Art himself.
How many people that are that rich and have a massive ego are capable of self-reflection?
I'd probably say less than 1% and Art isn't part of that group.

Where this idea goes sideways is… has Tomlin given him what he wants?

He wants a dominant run game and every year at the end of the season he has to talk about how - doh!… we need to develop a running game.

He wants an elite D, and every season the D gets waxed in historical ways in the playoffs.

So if this is what AR2 really wants, why then is Tomlin still the coach?

There’s… no… logic… here.

The worst possible thing that can happen also is that Fields succeeds. Because then Tomlin looks like an absolute f***ing legend again.
