OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Off Season We dont need a QB Edition

If he's not in your long term plans, you should get something for him, especially since they are not serious contenders for 2025. They could tag and trade, but I'd imagine teams are more willing to take a chance on him when he's making only $4M than the $20M+ or whatever he'd be making on a franchise tag.
Except the team that trades for him is going to want to extend him like we were doing with DK and Ayiuk

Then you need to use a 1st or 2nd to draft a replacement RT. That doesn't change anything.
Washington could start transitioning to RT. Maybe Anderson or Cooks takes the RT spot. I kinda think they should draft a OT anyway on day 3 for depth.

Their CB room is too crowded for me to think that they're going to draft a CB this year.

Porter, Slay, Echols, Bishop and Trice seem like their CB1-5 and I'm not sure I see a position for a 3rd rounder here above CB5.
Bishop and trice are depth and not even guaranteed roster spots. Trice can’t stay healthy and Bishop is not guaranteed to stick

Don't forget James Pierre!

I guess, the way I see it, Bishop is a UDFA, Trice is a 7th rounder that gets hurt all the time. Slay is 34, Echols is a backup kinda guy, not signed for much.

While I agree, it appears they don't need one. If the best guy available in the 3rd, by a decent margin is a CB, they should draft them.

But I agree in principle, it doesn't appear that they will draft a CB. They don't have any on the current Pre-Draft visit list, though that list is very incomplete for now.

Even if Jones isn't a long term solution at LT, I'd still bet on him starting there in his 4th year there unless he's either completely useless or something amazing falls into the Steelers' laps. Enough questionable long term fits have finished rookie contracts here that it seems pretty obvious.

I also think that while Trice and Bishop aren't going to stop the Steelers for one moment if they really like a CB in the 3rd/4th rounds, they're adequate enough depth that the team isn't going to be looking to replace them just because. Not like they don't have enough fairly imminent holes that they could very easily be into R4/5 before they're done with them.

Imagine if Jones sucks and Fautanu proves to be injury prone :help:

Their first round drafting has been a major issue. Those two guys need to pan out bigly.
That would almost be as bad as whiffing on the QB pick.

I'm still cautiously optimistic, though. Fautanu was looking good until he got hurt. Jones was raw. We knew that when they drafted him. They haven't done him any favors making him play on his off side and he got off to a rough start last year (he was banged up if I remember correctly), but he stabilized a bit as the year went on.

As long as they are on the field, I think they will be at least good enough. Hopefully a lot better than that, though.

If Jones can't hack it at LT, that's going to be a real kick in the dick.

I don't understand handing Jones the 1st/2nd most important position on the Oline when he barely kept his head above water on the other side.

This team is ass backwards when it comes to placing Olinemen in the correct spots.

Jones would just kick to LG where I think he'd be insanely good. Fautanu has shown to be pretty good already, so I don't see a flop there. I hope Jones' kick over will inspire his play

I'm certainly no Oline expert, but I always thought Jones was more guard vs tackle after seeing him play in the pros.

Semu has been adequate, but not the run blocking stud I thought we were getting.

They should have hedged their bets a bit more with Fauntu/Jones by signing a vet swing tackle. They had/have the cap room

LT is his correct spot. They played him at RT due to injuries (Fautanu in 2024) and poor performance (Chuks in 2023).

Putting Jones at RT was beyond stupid - he had to relearn everything - basically like trying to wipe your ass with your weaker hand.

He was struggling all of his rookie year as a RT, so obviously put him there again!

They should have known by now if he was a legit LT, but yep.

NGL though, I will be laughing watching the statue of AR hobble for his life all season if Jones struggles.

So kind of a win-win situation to me - your amusement factor may vary though.

Giddens for me.

What would you rather they do?

I think Tuten is getting huge boost from his 40 time whereas before the combine he just wasn't in the discussion.

Giddens has been in the discussion for 3rd-4th round since late 2024 and he tested pretty well at a better size than Tuten.

I agree with you on Trice but I'm not sure I agree on Bishop. Bishop has looked really impressive when he has played and seems like a guy who can overtake Echols for the starting slot CB spot. They will need to draft an outside CB2 though, I've always assumed you need to use a 1st or 2nd to get that but maybe I'm overestimating the investment needed to get a CB2.
