OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Off Season We dont need a QB Edition

That's a big ask for Trice. Don't mind him in packages or starting 1-3 games bc of injury, but we're gonna have a bad time if he's asked to be the other boundary corner. He's gonna have to take a big leap and I just don't see it. Reminds me of Deshea Townsend in that regard...
Right now Trice and Bishop are depth. You can’t count on Trice to be healthy enough to be cb2.

Well yes Howard Nfl comparison is a more mobile Mason. Howard and Mason are most likely backups but you need multiple darts thrown at the qb position. Draft a qb every year until someone sticks. They can easily move off mason next season if want or he can be Mitch. Right now they only have 1 qb under contract. If they wanted Wilson back he would be signed they don’t. Winston would be fun but Tomlin isn’t going to sign off on him.
Technically they also have Skyler Thompson.

Is it crazy to say that Sanders seems like a Pickett esque prospect? Maybe a little more talented, but I don’t know that there’s a huge difference between the two.

Sanders is like Pickett from an athletic standpoint, but his processing is better, he knows how to progress through reads and his willingness to stand in the pocket is massively better.

I think Sanders could thrive in a 49ers or Rams offense. If he would slip to the Rams, I bet they would take him. And I have to wonder if the 49ers might grab him and then trade Purdy after the 2025 season.

I am really torn, if he is there, I lean toward taking him. Everybody's opinion is that he is smart, tough and accurate. Being accurate with the football is the most important part of being a QB. I get that people want a guy that is 6'-5' and 240 with those traits but Mahomes is 6'-2", so is Sanders.

I think there is a bit of negative bias because of who his dad is and that he acts abit flamboyant. But he doesn't play the position like that, he will stand in and take a hit to make the throw. Joe Burrow has acted like he owns the joint since his senior year in college and nobody has a problem with him.

And yet in the playoff game against buffalo mason was using the mof

I have 2 MOF throws in the 1st half. Coincidently they scored a TD on 1
Beginning of the 2nd half Buffalo was leaving MOF wide open in a prevent defense bc they were up by a couple of TD's. So it certainly wasn't a game plan by the Steelers.

The GM of the Titans is looking to trade back into the 1st round. Offer on the table is the 35th overall pick, the 103rd pick, and a 2026 2nd rounder.

What do yinz think?

This would leave the Steelers without a 1st round pick. We would then have in the top 4 rounds, 35th (2nd), 83rd (3rd), 103 (Top pick in 4th), 123 (4th). Plus they would get the TEN 2nd in 2026.

Everyone wants a QB who acts like he owns the joint. Nobody wants a QB who acts like everyone else in the joint is way beneath him as a consequence.

As I said, I don't know how to evaluate all the noise about that. But I certainly see why it's different. Last year, there was a bunch of noise about Williams because he wasn't your standard tough-as-nails, even keel persona QB, but that quietened. The more we get into the process with Sanders, the louder it seems to get.

The value is solid. I'd be happy if Omar did that.

I don’t care if a guy is arrogant and full of himself - Ben was by all accounts a major douche - I just care if a guy is about winning and a good teammate, and stays out of trouble.

I was a kid when Sanders played and all my friends tried to dance like him when they made plays, etc

It just made me laugh - it never really bothered me.

Sanders from what I recall wanted to win badly and was never in trouble off the field.

He was just smart enough to make himself a brand long before influencers and such existed.

I remember Bosworth tried to brand his Boz persona but was a joke in the NFL, whereas Sanders lived up to the hype he created for his Primetime brand.

Not sure i would want to trade completely out of the 1st round and only pick up a 2nd next year and a 4th. I would need additional picks

Done.

Ok, we are up in the mock draft.

It appears TEN wanted to trade up for Jeanty but he went at pick 20 to the Broncos. Thus, who do we want here:

Shadeur Sanders
Derrick Harmon
Matthew Golden
Jahdae Barron
Emeka Egbuka
Walter Nolen
Omarion Hampton

Harmon imo

I am regularly seeing Jahdae Barron go top 10 as that Branch/DeJean versatile DB star only he can play outside CB full time. Very hard time passing that up imo.

He isn’t interested in Hampton. Houston isn’t interested in Emeka.
I like Nolen and Harmon if no trade back. Cleveland doesn’t want Sanders

If we had a 2nd he would be awesome to learn from Sly for a year cause we could still go DL in round 2

Re: Jeremiah's latest mock- I'm not sure what's a bigger reach... Sanders at 3 or Jaxson Dart to us at 21.

I agree with the general consensus about Sanders that he lacks any elite tools but has some of those immeasurable intangibles similar to Kenny Pickett. In a pure meritocracy where QB's are evaluated on a level playing field with other positions, Sanders probably goes in the 20's? And I think Dart goes on day 2. But that's not reality.

I watched Colorado probably 5 times this past year and it was just so obvious that Travis Hunter was the engine of that whole team, not just on offense. So to see him mocked a pick later than Sanders at 4 has me clutching my pearls, but I get it.

QB school's take on Dart. I'm admittedly a little biased against Ole Miss QB's. Lane Kiffin is a fantastic college offensive coach and that scheme works for them-but it's just not a pro offense. It's like 99% shotgun RPO. If you watched Matt Corral highlights during the 2022 draft season, you know what I'm talking about.

I’ve actually seen some people push back on this when it comes to Sanders. As in he’s billed as a strong processor but when you watch the film, he’s a slowish post snap processor especially when the defense disguises coverage.

I’d rather just have Mason qb this year and draft in 26 which is supposedly a better qb draft.

A lot of it will likely fall on Arch Manning having a great season and then coming out. Which will push other QBs down the board.

Mannings are all about getting a lot of college starts, so there’s a good chance he comes out in ‘27.

Even if Archie doesn’t come out it’s still potentially 6 deep with 1st round Qbs.

Steelers could have easily got their QB last year with either Nix or Penix. But Tomlin is in control and the guy is a maroon. Add a horrible lackey at GM and you get what we got.

FIRE EVERYONE
