No they didnt. They might have said you’ll come into camp as the starter. But there is no way in hell they promised them your the starter no matter what.

Not in perpetuity, but I don't have any issues saying "You'll be the starter Week 1" or "You're in pole position to be starter"or whatever gives him the warm and fuzzys.

Sure, but Fields already knows that. Theyre not gonna throw money at 2 Qbs and even if they drafted one high they aint coming into camp as the starter.

Yeah with Darnold gone, I think the most likely outcome is Fields to the Jets, Rodgers to the Steelers and Wilson to the Giants. I'm just praying that doesn't end up happening and they come to an agreement with Fields.
I'd be really interested in seeing what the Jets do if Fields does re-sign with the Steelers. They're obviously not bringing Rodgers back, but who else really is there? Both sides may be left without a partner by the end of this.

The Steelers going from Wilson to Rodgers feels exactly like the shitshow the Colts were doing when they were jumping around to Rivers and Ryan and getting bad results out of both.

Not real high on Darnold, but this would have been stomachable. Was expecting $40M+ for 4+ years. Only 3 years would have been OK. Start this year, draft a guy to sit behind him next year, and then have a 'competition' in year 3 or if you can get out of it without too much pain.
....unless of course he does well.
