Edit: Twitter is dying but Dulac saying Steelers are close to signing Rodgers

The Steelers are getting close to a deal with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, per multiple sources. They decided to enter discussions with Rodgers and Sam Darnold when it became apparent Justin Fields wanted to test his value in the free-agent market.

At this point I’m hoping Sanders falls to the Steelers 1st and we only deal with Rodgers for half a year. I won’t be able to each more than the of Rodgers bozo washed ass

And why wouldn't he be? Skylar Johnson or whatever his name is?

If I was Fields and I asked to be guaranteed the starting job and the Steelers didn't respond with "Yes, of course", I'd kindly tell them to f*** off, too.

You dont guarantee people a role. They can infer it based on circumstance but just on principle you dont guarantee someone a starting spot. Ever

Seriously if that was the problem, I do not understand at all what the Steelers are doing. It’s Fields or like…Will Howard? Why would he not be their starter this year?

I can’t imagine any team would promise him anything beyond 2025.

My thoughts from last month re: the QB carousel.

Repeated this earlier but Rodgersperforming better down the stretch last year (as opposed to his first 5-6 games) can give some credibility to the idea that he's more recovered from the achilles and just understanding his body better after the surgery at 40 years of age.

I'll reserve further judgement until one of the more credible insiders chimes in.

Stafford would probably be 1A for me if he became available and the price wasn't insane. That's if we're picking the "try and compete again" lane. Although if the Rams decide to part ways with him, that would give me some caution as I trust McVay and co. have a good read on how much he has left in the tank. I've seen some rumors about a Stafford+Kupp trade package but I don't know how feasible that is.

1B is sign Fields if Stafford isn't interested or made available by the Rams.

Not totally opposed to Rodgers, I actually think you could make the argument that him being another year removed from the achilles injury has him more comfortable with his own body/limitations and would be in line for a rebound. I'm just not betting on it.

I'm cool with taking a dice roll on McCord on day 3 even if we sign one of the aforementioned veteran QB's. We need to be taking multiple swings at the position.

This gives them some flexibility now. If their guys aren't there at 21, great draft to bounce back. Also curious as to where this leaves Pickens - maybe potentially shortening his leash.

I’m holding out hope this is some ploy to get Fields to make a decision.

At the end of the day, if it’s not him I don’t really care who it is. So if Rodgers is cheap then whatever.

Yea I mean, we’re kinda in no mans land until we draft one, anyway.

Tons of people here wanted nothing to do with Fields as a starter. Then wanted nothing to do with Wilson. So if it’s Rodgers for a year, at least he’s a smart QB. Let him try for a season and draft one next year.
