OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

colts want to bring in competition for Richardson Sam is probably more than competition. The Titans could go Howard or a Qb round 2 or 3 to compete with Levis

That's what they've said, but the Steelers said they were just bringing in competition for Pickett last summer so I've learned my lesson about believing teams at this time of year.

Yeah that makes sense, I'm just not sure why they'd pass on Ward to do that. They must just not view Ward as that good or view the 2026 QBs as far better than Ward. I thought Ward looked like a good QB prospect so I'm a bit interested in hearing why they think that.

It makes sense to me. Pure consensus parroting, but it sounds to like Ward is a good QB prospect you'd be happy to take around 10OA most years. Carter and Hunter sound like really, really good prospects you'd be happy to take top 5 any year.

If you're sure of your job and pretty sure your team is probably picking top 10 next year, punting on taking Ward now at an overpay to get more picks and Carter/Hunter at fair value looks reasonable to me. You have to believe in next year's QB crop for that but having had a look at it yesterday, I think it'll probably be okay. Lot of interesting if unpolished guys. Right now it looks like QB4, who's maybe who the Titans have next year, would be LaNorris Sellars, who reads like a squat Josh Allen. Obviously the likelihood of him being QB4 is low, but that'd give me enough faith that I'd take the gamble. It's not an obviously weak year coming, which I think was called from fairly early with this year.

Big fan of this guy. But from this video, you can see that he doesn't put the ball in the right hand. If he switched hands he could get more yards. I just think he's a guy who has the stuff you can't teach. Looks like LBell at MSU.

Stutsman and Payton Wilson would be so much fun to watch at MLB. Two white maniacs running around.

Just heard him on that show above.
Great interview. The guys think he’s a green dot type of lb from the start

The more I go through this draft the more I really like Texas players in this draft. Sark has something brewing there.

There are two "draft" things that I'd like to see change, one with the NFL, one with the NHL.
NFL - shouldn't have an option not to participate at the combine.

NHL - draft eligibility should get bumped back to the kid's 20th birthday. Pay them more at every level lower. College kids are getting paid. It makes it more interesting to follow NHL draft prospects because they aren't 7 years away from playing, speeds up the maturation of the game.

I'm shocked that Holcomb is still playing tbh, I thought his career was over.

This has him at a cap hit of $3.5 million (roughly) next year, which is fine as a 2nd or 3rd ILB. I'm just worried he's going to be ruined due to his injury.

Off topic apologies -
This is interesting because there is a lot of talk in Columbus about having Cayden Lindstrom move from juniors to Ohio State for next season. Fewer games coming off his injury, world-class health and fitness, and keeps him close so the parent club can keep tabs on him. The discussion inevitably turns to whether or not this is a thing NHL clubs would do more of, with NIL being a thing, drafting a kid and then "stashing" him at the "local" college program.

Heading into 2025, he had no guaranteed money left. Thus they could have saved 6mil cutting him, 2mil roster bonus and 4mil in salary for 2025. His prorated bonus of 1.64mil is on the books regardless.

I'm thinking they lowered his base salary from 4mil to vet min of 1mil and then lowered his roster bonus to ~1 mil. And again, did not guarantee any of it.

Thus, if he can't play, they just cut him before camp ends and they save everything but the prorated bonus.

Gotta figure that's the end of Elandon Roberts - with Queen, Holcomb and Wilson, can't see Roberts sticking around.

I don't think Holcomb is going to be very productive. Roberts was probably our best LB last year. I'd trade Queen honestly, if Holcomb can really play. KC needs a MLB.

I think college just became a very viable avenue for guys - dare I say, a better avenue. You can spend 3 years at Denver getting paid and living the dream or 3 years in Moose Jaw. Choose wisely.

I honestly believe college hockey has the ability to be a sport that people can rally around. Even things like the Beanpot...those tournaments are heated. If it had a bigger stage I think it'd really catch on like Big East basketball did. It's these obscure schools that are in a lot of cities that have nothing to do but hockey. There is something very romantic about college hockey to me.

Before the injury bug at ILB I was a huge fan of what Holcomb, Alexander, and Roberts were doing in 2023. The Steelers were getting good quality play from their ILB without spending a fortune. I'm not expecting much but I hope he can stay healthy because I think Holcomb is/was a good player.

I think that'd result in a lot of NFL draft prospects deciding they're injured.

Re the other stuff -

I always thought that they wouldn't need Holcomb with Queen and Wilson, but if he's fit and cheap, that's great news... unless they think Queen/Holcomb/Wilson is a sufficient LB core going downhill and there'll be no Elandon Roberts, as I have my doubts about that.

1st and 3rd for Metcalf can do one

Tutu Atwell signed a one year 10 million dollar contract with the Rams that’s fully guaranteed after a season with less than 600 yards and no touchdowns. If that’s any indication, free agent prices are gonna be nuts.

I hope they're not picking Holcomb over Roberts. No confidence in Holcomb contributing ever again and I kinda liked the Wilson/Roberts platoon depending on opponent and game situation.

Yeah not to defend keeping Holcomb, I have the same concern, but I figure it's more about Wilson getting a more significant role going forward. I imagine that Queen and Wilson are the 2 primarily ILBs while Holcomb is the backup, and he'll be cut if he can't perform at that level.

Queen is much better without the green dot. If Holcomb is healthy he will take the dot from Queen. Wilson is still a part time lb who is learning to be better in the run fits and not get caught up in the wash

Interesting statistical profile. That reads as a bit nuts paying that for no TDs, but he did really well with the successful play metric and nearly half his targets went for first downs. How much is moving the chains worth?

I imagine he'll regress a bit there, but then he's probably going to regress back to getting TDs too.

In any case though, yeah, the prices will be high. 50m of cap increase in two seasons is one hell of a drug...

Unless Wilson gets significantly better at playing the run, that'd worry me.

Problem is he's also better when he's not the ILB closest to the line. I can back the idea they'd be better with Holcomb having the green dot if healthy but, in this scenario, it just reads to me like they'd be better off without Queen.
