OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

I think it's as simple as their contracts being up and them trying to push through some token "change" Tomlin promised at his presser. And God forbid Art pay a guy to not coach, so the guys with expiring contracts were on the chopping block while the guys with more term are coming back. It's cheap, it's arbitrary, and it's performative.

If that is true, it would be a microcosm of my criticism of Rooney. Focused more on image rather than results.

This is the exactly what we need to be doing to solve our QB problem. Leave no stone unturned. Evaluate every option in the draft and free agency.

Doesn’t sound super realistic but crazier things have happened. Jags could be looking for a complete reset. IIRC the Lions traded Goff less than a year after he signed his big extension.

I was going to say that trading Lawrence wouldn't be possible due to the insane amount of dead cap space that would come from trading him, but I actually think I'm wrong there. If they trade him before June 1st, they're going to be stuck with $100 million in dead money. However after June 1st it only is a $14.5 million dead money penalty. So while an early off-season trade is completely off the table, I could see a later season trade.

The much larger issue though is that the Steelers do not have the assets to pull him off, and numerous teams would be bidding for Lawrence if he ever actually became available.

I've been a long time doubter of Lawrence and I think the cost to acquire him would be insane. So I'm probably against this, but....

there's no harm in asking and I support the urgency in finding a QB.

Apparently someone said Jags want our first and second round picks in this draft for Lawrence…lol…thanks no thanks…not doing that at all…he’s closer to bust territory…I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on him but he’s closer to a Fields’ return, not a first

Maybe it’s a hot take, but I don’t even think the Jags trading Lawrence for a haul would be the worst move for them. He hasn’t been in a great situation, but he himself also hasn’t been particularly good outside of his second year.

Of course it would be great for them, but no one should be paying a 1st and 2nd for him…that would be stupid GMing lol…so good luck to them getting a haul

I would be shocked in the hypothetical world where Lawrence is traded if the return for him wasn’t two first round picks at least.

Jaguars source already said the idea was “ridiculous” Jags would trade Lawrence.

However, it at least shows the Steelers know Fields and Wilson aren’t the answer.
