Been pounding this drum for the entire year- especially when it relates to Najee

The Steelers went from 13th ranked in rushing yards to 8th, by running it 50 times more than last year. So, they were not only bad, they doubled down on it and beat it to death.

Also, highlights the stupidity of using total yards as a way of measuring anything in the NFL. Which is why I roll my eyes at the Mike Evans 1,000 yard club as well as Barkley's accomplishments. Both great players obviously, but their predecessors did it in less games.
Barkley did it in 16 games ..

Would love Rex to be the Steelers coach. Get some f***in accountability in this building

We gotta be better than this man

I have no problem with wanting to see Tomlin go but we need to aim a little higher than Rex Ryan.

Much as I've believed in this philosophy over the years I've come the realisation that there's a third option -

They float.

And that's what Steelers QBs do.

I know. I am too lazy, but I'm almost positive this exact result (still waiting on the playoff loss) was basically the consensus preseason. Lather rinse repeat.

We all agree the Steelers skill position players suck for the most part and their offensive philosophy is outdated.

Why are we quoting stats like they aren't affected by this?

It’s pretty obvious the issue with the franchise is the complete neglect and lack of understanding of play design and play calling. They don’t strive to achieve a modern offense or outscore opponents. You can win 9-10 games a year with attrition football running it and playing strong defense, but you can’t beat the elite modern offense in the playoffs that way. The only solution is to dump Tomlin and hire the best offensive mind available.

That is Ben Johnson. He is 38 and the Rooney family gets boners for young coordinators in their 30’s. Johnson is the best play designer in the business right now. Getting rid of Tomlin also allows them to hire an actual DC, and not a cuck that is subservient to Tomlin like everyone here has been since Lebeau left. Maybe offer Brian Flores an assistant HC/DC job with a nice pay raise. That way he can walk Johnson through the minutia of running a team while allowing Johnson to focus on the offense and Flores to head up the defense.

I’d bring Johnson and Flores in for HC interviews, then offer Johnson the job and call Flores and offer him a pay raise and assistant HC title.

A lot of people are saying we’ve got to figure out the QB position, but in all honesty that position makes zero difference if you don’t fix the HC /OC / scheme / philosophy issues.

Go get your coaches, let them pick the direction regarding the next QB.

Absolutely none of this will happen because Rooney. Just prepare for a 9-8 season next year and NHALS until Tomlin decides to retire.

Most people said they would finish last and Vegas said we would not win 9 games

Ben Johnson isn’t talking any job without a Qb

You know this how?

I mean he's going to Chicago anyway, but if I'm Ben Johnson I worry more about who I'm reporting to and my autonomy vs what may or may not be on the roster

Been widely reported. May or may not be accurate.

There's reports that he might just stay put this year. That he'd rather be free to run an offence of really talented players rather than dealing with a bunch of bullshit as HC with less talented players to boot.

Still, whatever the reports say, I think his history shows he's not going to jump at the first job, he's going to bide his time for the right opportunity. And this ain't it, alas.

Williams wants Kinsberry

If he doesn’t have a qb he could be the next daboll or Peterson fired in 3 years because even the best play caller needs a qb

Only 7 NFL teams have 0 playoff wins since 2016. Of those teams:

✦ Steelers - 0 HC changes
✦ Panthers - 4 HC changes
✦ Dolphins - 3 HC changes
✦ Bears - 3 HC changes
✦ Commanders - 4 HC changes
✦ Cardinals - 4 HC changes
✦ Raiders - 4 HC changes

In a hypothetical world, would anyone actually have faith in this Rooney hiring a new HC? Everyone hates the team’s offensive philosophy but I don’t think that changes in the never gonna happen scenario that Tomlin is fired.

Sorry I meant to say Simpson. His record was way more impressive since he only did it in 14

To me it's less about games and more about Rush Attempts. The game is way more pass focused than it ever has been. For reference:

OJ: 332 Att, 2003 yards
Saquon: 345 Att, 2005 yards
Barry: 335 Att, 2053 yards
All-day AP: 348 Att, 2097 yards
Dickerson: 379 Att, 2105 yards
Henry: 378 Att, 2027 yards
Lewis: 387 Att, 2066 yards
TD: 392 Att, 2008 yards
Johnson: 358 Att, 2006 yards

OJ's is just as impressive due to the attempts. But Saquon is damn close and Barry's is really the best ever. If he got as many attempts as Dickerson the record would be ~2300 yards.

Yup, I think Rooney knows about 1/5 of the football stuff that made his dad and brother successful

But, look at all the top teams in the NFL. They all have Offensive HC's as a commonality

Can you please just let me live in fantasy land for just a few moments????!!!!!

Agreed. what a buzzkill!

And I still believe the Steelers job is the best in the NFL due to ownership giving the HC position basically a lifetime contract and it being part of their fabric. Every year there is the graphic showing three coaches in 55+ years etc.

The next coach will be given a vast amount of time. Especially if the team doesn't have a franchise QB.

Would you quit your job if your boss didn't hold you accountable and got paid $19M per ?

Yeah Ben Johnson is going to be able to pick any location he wants, he's not coming to a team with no QB, no offensive weapons and a rapidly aging defense.

At least on the offensive side of the ball, I think my plan as of now would be:

1. Draft a WR in round 1 this year
2. Go with Fields over Wilson due to cost and use the money saved to help pay for a good WR2 in free agency
3. Trade Pickens at the draft for a 2nd rounder, with the intend of using that to help out either DT or CB.

I don't think the Steelers could realistically contend with the market to sign Higgins, but Godwin could be a decent option. Adding Godwin in free agency and Isaiah Bond with their 1st would be a nice boost for the WR group.

Oh yeah in an offense driven league having an offensive HC is such an advantage. Not to say you can’t win with a defense first HC but you’re going to have to nail OC picks every other year if your offense is good because your OC will get a head coaching job somewhere.
