He needs to be a game manager type at this stage in his career. However, they have no running game and leaning on Roth at this stage of his career isn’t a recipe for success.
They don't need to lean that hard on him. Maybe play the back up and save the groaning about the back up. Just play him. Ben playing less maybe gives this team a fighting chance. He's not a Rivers or any of the older QBs that actually have a good fitness level. He's old, kind of dumpy, has a bum arm and might need to sit some games just so he can stay fresh and not hurt.

He is limited in what the offense can call. He can’t get under center doesn’t do play action or RPo. He doesn’t have the arm stretch to attack the middle of the field. We are seeing 8 man boxes

What’s going to be the excuse when we lose to the Bengals next Sunday and Burrow outplays BR? Oh, we’re just too banged up, our young guys haven’t gelled enough, guys…

I shut the game off thinking they would just take the knee. You mean they tried a play and DJ got injured?
I never feel that bad about DJ getting hurt. He's the Jack Johnson to Tomlin's Sullivan.

So many better players but Ben loves his DJ.

I don’t see the point in playing MR. He just makes them mediocre or a hair under.

Roth is cooked, but still the better QB.

He’s given them a chance to win in both games, which is about all you can hope for at this point.

Why would there be excuses? Steelers aren’t a very good team, but they aren’t a tire fire either.

Their QB is past his due date, the O-line is young and needs time to gel (hopefully), and as we saw for the umpteenth time - they are coached poorly.

None of this was a big secret.

They could have a pretty good season if the O-like comes together or a mediocre season if not. The only shocking thing would be for them to be a cellar dweller (not that I’d mind, mind you).

I can't believe they are protecting QB's when they decide to run. If you go in to the open field and don't know how to slide properly you deserve to take one to the dome.

Scoring 17 points doesn’t give you a chance to win in the nfl. Scoring 0 and 7 in the first half of the last 2 first halves doesn’t help

Uh, they won last week and were one drive from being able to take the lead, but the D decided to let up a 61 yard TD.

So far, that’s the epitome of having a QB that gives your team a chance to win.

That’s about all we can expect out of him at this point.

I’m sure he will have a few big games this season, but they won’t be the norm or anything.

Most games he will be like he was these last two games, a mixed bag that can overcome his aging play with just enough plays to keep them close and give them a chance.

He’s not a horse they can ride anymore that will overcome shitty, cowardly coaching and be a huge band aid for a bad running game.

and that cost us on the bomb to ruggs.

looks like the steeler DB hesitated bit as he was closing in on carr. probably thinking not to hit him "too hard" and draw a flag.

gave him more time to get off a deep throw

Yup, teams are going to stack the box until Ben shows some sort of consistent deep ball.

Not just that, they have a 6'5" tight end that should be feasting on the middle of the field and there's a big goose egg there for anything deeper than a 6 yard pass. Whether it's the offensive plays, Ben's arm, Ben's stubborn streak, or all of the above, this offense is screwed as it is currently constituted.

That chart, to me, in indicative of a QB who doesn't have enough confidence in his arm strength/ a coordinator who doesn't think his QB has enough zip on the ball to not hang the WRs or TEs out to dry over the middle/ not get feasted on by ballhawk safeties.

It sucks that Ben is 40 instead of 30 at this point, I feel like this team could be a legitimate contender with an above average QB.

Their run game is limited due to their bad offensive line and the inexperience of Harris (which isn't his fault ofc, I think he will be good in the near future), and their passing game is limited because Ben is a relic.

they ran play action 3-4 times early in the game. it went no where

You know the Chiefs and Ravens have shitty defenses but they’re fun to watch because they can score points and are never out of games…and then there’s the Steelers
