I missed that. But funny, because I’m pretty sure it was him who said earlier in the game something like “You don’t just get rid of someone like Tomlin. Everyone loves playing for him” blah blah blah. All the typical BS talking points from the media who don’t watch this team week after week, year after year, and only hear audio clips of Tomlin’s cliches. Now, he does have a brother on the team and has more insight than the typical media guy, but still.

Milroe has an insane amount of natural talent and could be a gamebreaker QB if he's developed right. That's way more attractive than drafting a low upside, NFL ready QB like Pickett was.

So I stopped watching after the 3rd and 3 Patterson handoff counter then the subsequent punt.
I don't mind the call IF they are going for it on 4th down. But Tomlin punted and lived in his fears yet again. That's when I knew they weren't serious about scoring points this game.

This idiotic switching of the RB's has to end. Warren comes in and basically gets all the yards for their only TD and gives the offense some spark and momentum. Guess who waltzes back in to start the next offensive series? It wasn't Warren.


CPatt- love the effort he brings, but Smith's fetish for him is absolutely weird.

Patterson touches the ball or targeted 44% of time he is on the field.

"Mediocre Mike" is gonna get a lot of votes for coach of the year.

How many more times do we have to let it happen before we take our ball and go home as fans? Five straight playoff losses where our opponents have AVERAGED over 40 points a game in those five losses. Name any other coach in any other profession that survives that. Please.

And the thing is, you'd think that to get absolutely embarrassed not one, not two, not three, not four, but five times that as the head coach you'd take a long look in the mirror and start making changes. I mean, you'd be justified to try ANYTHING different when you're getting your ass handed to you.

But no, Tomlin is as rigid as, well, steel. Just arrogantly staying the course. Still doing the same shit he was 8-10 years ago, still making the same predictable mistakes, still terrified as hell of stepping outside his comfort zone and trying to win a big game rather than not lose it, and still getting outclassed and outprepared in any big game that doesn't involve playing someone he is intimately familiar with as he likes to say.

So yeah, since the dude doesn't want to grow and learn from his mistakes, and everything about him and his staff reeks of arrogance, a part of me wouldn't mind see them getting their asses kicked.

So that's the struggle I've been dealing with this year. Rooting for this team but knowing Tomlin and company have not changed one iota after five straight embarrassing playoff losses and a part of me just wants to see them get embarrassed over and over and over again until it finally sinks in. Or it doesn't, and the Steelers are forced to move on.

The last 5 or so minutes of the 4th quarter made no sense whatsoever from a coaching standpoint.

If you're playing to win, why punt on 4th and 2?
If you're not playing to win, why are Watt/Minka/Cam/etc all still in the game?
If you're playing to win (down 19), why are you calling 3 straight runs up the middle?
If you're playing to win, why is little Heyward in the game for the entire possession???

My question would be, if everyone knows who it is, why is that player still playing. Seems like the easy solution would just be to bench him?

Some nuggets to help you hate Tomlin even more:

- Every team in the division has won a playoff game more recently than the Steelers. The franchise is on its longest streak of seasons without a playoff win since 1972. The fan base has lowered expectations and largely lost faith the team will ever win anything of note under the current coach. The owners just extended that coach again this past off-season. The defense first head coach gets torched vs every top offense and every playoff opponent.

- Steelers have a post-Thanksgiving losing streak of at least 3 games for the 5th time over the past 7 seasons.

Well when Sutton came back he got a helmet over Bishop (who had played extraordinarily well)

So I put that more on the coaching who wanted to have that "vet presence" over a young guy who was you know, actually contributing.

I find it hard to believe that a guy who is only there for so few snaps is the problem and that things are fine the other 66% of snaps. Maybe they are talking Sutton. Maybe they're angry there's always one guy doing the wrong thing but it's no specific guy and I'm misreading this.

Eh agree to disagree on Bishop playing extraordinarily well. Decent enough for a UDFA and had a really nice game against the Jets, but he’s still a guy teams are gonna pick on.

The constant excuses about "execution" while simultaneously showing considerable lack of strategic planning and thinking always bother me. Expecting linebackers to cover elite receivers is not an execution problem.

It really is pretty simple with this defense. If the pass rush can get home or if the opposing QB sucks, the defense is good. Otherwise, it gets exposed because their corners aren't very good and they are schematically unsound and overly simplistic, a combination that is pretty hard to achieve as being very basic should prevent the constant blown coverage and miscommunications. Until they get better at the CB spot and until they run defenses that aren't total one trick ponies, good QB will do what Burrow and Hurts and Jackson and Mahomes have done to them.

I’m not in any way saying Tomlin is blameless, but again it does not matter what other people on defense are being paid if your cornerback room is Donte Jackson, James Pierre, Corey Trice, Cam Sutton, and Beanie Bishop. That’s gonna get lit up by any decent QB.

As someone posted above, the Steelers do what they do: play zone bc they think their standard pass rush will get home.

So when the rush DOESN"T get home, did you see any blitzes? Did you see man coverage? Did you see anything that would be categorized as "adjustments"? I didn't based on my casual watching.

Yes. They did play man coverage and Donte Jackson got burnt by Justin f***ing Watson. They play zone because their corners outside of Porter suck in man coverage. And again, not saying they can’t try to do more and not saying this has nothing to do with coaching but asking this secondary to play more man would also be bad coaching.

42 and 26 aren’t capable of playing m2m. In fact 42 is still just a gunner on st. Teams literally targeting them like it’s candy. Trice is still learning but missed so much time with injuries.
Another issue they have is milb if Roberts is in teams throw at him and run if it’s Wilson in.
They have no d line depth
