I think re-signing Wilson to a decent sized contract and then drafting Milroe in round 1 would be the thing that makes me check out on this team for a while.

Yeah ultimately I view this team to have too many holes to realistically contend in the near term, so getting their future QB now to learn behind Wilson/Fields (who are both stylistically similar to Milroe) seems like an obvious path to go. It just sucks that they're going to be wasting the rest of Watt's prime only being what they are, but I just don't see a way out of it. They'll be a 10-7 or 11-6 team that loses in round 1 (or gets lucky and loses in round 2) until Watt retires.
Why?
Milroe has an insane amount of natural talent and could be a gamebreaker QB if he's developed right. That's way more attractive than drafting a low upside, NFL ready QB like Pickett was.

Yeah, Justin Fields is Milroe with more pedigree. Just keep Fields and use the draft choice for a CB or WR.

I'd give Russ a 3 year contract and draft as much support as we can. Get one in 26. This is not the draft for a QB. No reason to throw another 1st round pick at QB when we would have Russ and he needs help around him to be great. Either do one or another. Build around Russ or fail glamorously.

I think this is a fair comment although I think Milroe's arm is better than Fields' arm. That said, their strengths/weaknesses are similar, but I think a good team could develop Milroe into a top tier QB.
I blame the Bears a lot for Fields never ending up better than what he ended up.

I'd actually pay Fields highly to be QB2 because they can continue to use him in subs. I think they can entice him back if there is a succession plan.
I really believe that Fields needs what is happening right now. He needed that coming out of college. I think Fields best possible case is Kordell Stewart (stats adjusted). He's going to have some amazing plays and he's going to have some boneheaded plays that can kill the team.
With this being said, he absolutely did not show that when he started earlier in the season.

Houston is probably the best matchup they could draw in the WC round, actually. Without Dell and Diggs and with a trash OL, they are basically the Steelers.

Personally I'd be totally good with just sitting Fields behind Wilson and hoping Fields can develop. I'm just wondering if Fields at 26 really has much room to grow, and realistically how high his upside can be at this point.
Milroe has very similar talents, but him being 22 versus 26 for Fields makes me think Milroe likely has more room to grow. That said, Milroe's flaws are pretty serious to the point where I'm not pounding on the table to draft him.

I just think there’s a middle ground between Pickett and a guy like Milroe. Like I don’t think he’s even remotely close to being an NFL QB right now and would have no confidence in this coaching staff developing him. He’s a worse version of Fields.

Hard pass on drafting Milroe. He is wildly inconsistent. This is not the draft to be looking for a qb.

I think we roll with Wilson and Fields over the next 3 years and if we bomb or a QB drops...grab them and never look back. I think we can play winning football with both guys if we can find a way to get some playmakers around them.
Wilson shows some juice still and Fields can really be a difference maker if they let him loose.

Wilson is 36 and can’t escape the pocket and has never been a guy to climb in the pocket. He has to throw on the top of the pocket to see over the line where seeing Denver RW. He is all deep ball and dump offs
Fields needs to play the slash role and be an offensive weapon he is not a nfl QB
We saw the Falcons dump Kirk and eat money
I don’t think anyone is paying either guy. RW is a 15 million dollar bridge maybe 2/25 like minshew

I wouldn't feel any better about drafting any of these QBs in 2025 as the year Pickett was coming out.
He climbed the pocket today at least 3 times that I remember. That's nonsense.
Russ has the ability to lead a team to victory. Say whatever else about his deficiencies. Russ needs to stop turning the f***ing ball over. That's the only issue I have with him this year.

I don't know enough about the 2025 QBs to give a hard opinion - although I've hard enough that my soft opinion is steer clear - but my general feeling is to trust the NFL consensus enough to street clear of any QB still available after the 14/15 pick until you're spending day 3 picks. There's just not that many QBs taken in that range these days and none of them have convinced their original teams all that much.
I also think that QB is near irrelevant - which is a weird thing to say in this sport - besides the three consistent failings that this team shows and that is driving all this anger over a loss to the B2B 14-1 champions
1) Defence rarely shows in big games
2) Bully mentality usually gets bullied in big games
3) Offences never had more than 3 or so great drives in big games
Maybe a QB lets you sidestep a bunch of shit and be a different team and gets things done in another way. But if it doesn't, Tomlin (and the others) has a job to do in terms of finding, developing and directing the talent to overcome most of that list, QB or no. It's not happening and the bomb under Tomlin's seat will keep ticking until he solves it.
edit: I don't love the deluge of defensive players pointing the finger at an anonymous one of their own either.

None of that makes any sense. The only person they can out is the DC. They don't look prepared.
TJ has propped this defense up for years the same way Ben propped the offense up for years. The minute TJ cannot produce the defense shits the bed.

So if the Bengals beat the Broncos on Sunday they’ll go into Week 18 with a chance to make the playoffs - pretty slim as it would require a lot to happen, but still a chance. Really hard to see this Steelers team beating them in that spot.
