Its really encouraging to see Pickett take steps forward. Canada still needs to go, he is the embodiment of a coach actively submarining your team on a play to play basis.

I think draft targets are really starting to clarify.

This is the first game where I thought KP was the right guy in at QB, the guy who helped win the game. He missed Pickens twice by about a foot and a couple drops from other receivers, including DJ in the end zone. If those are brought in he'd have a decent stat line. I like the way he puts it where nobody but the receiver can get it. Sometimes it's a little low or high and a tough grab for the receiver but I think it's good risk management and he should get a slightly better touch next year.

I'd like them to get a better draft pick but they needed a game like this where Pickett threw downfield and they win the game and score 20+ in the process. Hopefully there's more of this through the remaining games. I'd rather their QB make a statement that he's the guy and get a 10-15 pick, I think that's a better outcome for this org.

I think that's sort of where I'm at is that regardless of what has happened, I think Pickett is the guy going forward. Him showing progression is all I am looking for. He has a shit coordinator, he played all of camp with the 3's, he has no running game behind him, and his WRs haven't been doing him any favors. I have loved the way he has handled himself, how he battles, and how he leads. When we drafted him, I think we signed on for 4 years of Pickett, for better or worse.

As important as it is for him to progress, we really need to maximize the team around him. This season is shot, so I want us to have the greatest possibility of getting elite players/assets to surround him with talent because I think he has what it takes to win a Super Bowl.

Additionally, in 2023 we have around 7m in cap space currently and Ogunjobi, Rudolph, Bush, Edmunds, Sutton, Spillane, Alualu, Kazee, Boykin, Snell, Hassenauer, and Gentry are all free agents.

This is going to get worse before it gets better.

Rudolph will be 2nd String they will release or trade Trubisky, Spillane is Dogshit, Alaalu retires Snell is a dime a dozen, Edmunds walks resign Kazee, Hassennauer is a dime a dozen, Gentry has been underwhelming

As I watch Moore each week, it’s becoming crystal clear LT is the absolute biggest need.

He’s done admirable work in the run game, but he’s really struggling with pass protection and penalties.

Corner is the next most crucial need, but I don’t trust Tomlin to land a corner outside the top ten picks TBTH.

They always artificially create room when needed, so I’m not overly worried about it.

I don’t really think the cap is going to be an issue at all. The cap is projected to increase by about 20 million in 2023 and keep significantly increasing in the next few years because of new tv deals.

Then you have to assume guys like Trubisky aren’t going to be around and he has a 10 million dollar hit next year. So just between releasing him and the cap increase, that brings you to over 30 million available. That’s more than enough to re-sign the players they need to re-sign. And if you need more, there’s a ton of money to be had by restructuring Watt’s contract.

Plus they can always structure free agent deals like they did this offseason where there’s a minimal cap hit in the first year of the contract.

They have 19 million next year without even touching TJ contract or Minka which both can restructured to open up more.

They have 8 million for a DL guy I am thinking Payne from DC Hargrave Or Larry O to go with Loudermouth Neal ADams and a draft pick could see a Buggs reunion
Bush will probably get a 2 year similar to Jack
Kaze will probably get 2 years
Edmunds will probably get 3/24 like von bell
Sutton is getting 3/24 like Hilton

Wow nice post, finally agree on something.

I don't know why you'd re-sign so many of the guys on defense when the defense looks as bad as it is :dunno:

The focus on the team going forward should be building and progression more than anything. I think they desperately need a LT who can anchor the OL and a true shutdown CB, but you'll need multiple high draft picks to get both of those.

I guess an interesting question to throw out. Let's say you get get to around 12-14 overall by combining the Steelers 2nd and the Bears 2nd, which doesn't seem like a stretch when looking at past trades and draft pick trade values. Would you do that to try to get both a CB and a LT? In the mock draft I'm looking at, you have Skoronski (OT) at #7, Ringo (CB) at #8, Porter Jr (CB) projected at #10, Johnson Jr (OT) projected at #12 and Gonzalez (CB) projected at #13. If you have 2 picks around 8 and 12, I think you should be able to get both an OT and a CB with those picks.

I think it might be a bit challenging because Fashanu is going back to college, but I think you could feasibly get both an OT and a CB you like if you trade up with your 2 2nds.

I would do that no question. I think those two positions are far and away the biggest needs for this team so if you can come out of the draft with a decent chance of filling those needs for years to come, you take the chance.

They still would still have holes elsewhere but between free agency and the rest of the draft they should be able to fill some of them. And at the end of the day, it’s not like they have to fix every single one of their problems this offseason. No team is gonna be perfect.

So do some people still think that a guy who played the sport is qualified to be a head coach? Or can we finally admit the whole Jeff Saturday thing is a big joke finally?

of the bunch, I would only bring back Edmunds & Gentry. The rest just aren't worth it. They'll have more money to play with since Ben's cap hit comes off.

Rudolph is gone. There isn't a chance he'll be back. If they are smart, they'll keep Trubisky since he's a very capable backup. I also doubt Edmunds walks since he had zero bites last year & there isn't much evidence anyone else will be interested this year. He's been steady this year, but nothing more.

I’ve felt confident in KP since I watched all his senior snaps this past spring.

Just going to take a couple years to get him there, which is fine. Not like this team has done shit in the last 5 years anyway.

Just comical reading the comments like he will only be this or that, and never be Mahomes/Allen.

Now that Roth is retired, I see a lot of ppl rewriting how he was perceived. He was never considered to be the best in the league or on the Mt Rushmore of his era.

Early on it was “he’s a game manger on a great team”.

Then when he started putting up fantasy numbers his fourth season, you still heard he wasn’t in the same class as the Holy Trinity of Brady, Manning and Brees.

In fact, “Rivers and E Manning are probably better than him!”

“He’s pretty good though, like top ten I guess!”

Robble robble!

Roth was never considered the very best of his era and that didn’t exactly hold him back any.

So it’s pretty obvious KP doesn’t have to be the best of his era to have a lot of success.

Trubisky won't want to be Pickett's Caddy

But that homer guy told me the Steelers would score 30 points in each of the next 3 games.

It is something, but 20 is very different than 30.

I’d rather see them score 20 or so and KP do well, but if they routinely hit 30 down the stretch I’ll leave you to figure out the consequences of that.

Be careful what you wish for.
