So basically head coaches really don’t matter?

And ya, Colts are a good team with good players at 4-6, that recently fired their coach and are bouncing around their starting QBs.

Denver is also an absolute mess with the worst offense in the league.

Zero logic behind what you just wrote.

Totally unfair of us to expect a 16 year veteran coach be able to out coach a dude with only high school level experience.
Head coaches that stick to just head coaching don’t matter as much as people think…let your coordinators do most of the work with your overarching philosophy, rally the troops and really the only significant decisions you have are challenges/ time outs…Tomlin’s problem isn’t that he’s a terrible “head coach” (and he’s awful with challenges, game management lol)…it’s that he assumes playcalling duties and has inserted himself in personnel decisions to the detriment of the talent we have, or lack thereof…like every defensive player doesn’t have to be uber athletic but have limited football IQ lol

Yep and that is Tomlin’s choice and since he’s considered a great def genius, Steelers should have a big coaching advantage tonight.

You guys know Marcus Brady was also fired right?

16 year defensive genius vs an offense flip flopping QBs, a head coach with only HS experience, that also just fired their OC.

So why exactly should we pretend the Steelers shouldn’t have a big coaching advantage on the Colts?

Because Tomlin is a faux defensive genius…lol

Highest paid D in the league, all healthy. Coach with a label as a defensive genius, vs a Colts offense in massive upheaval with an inexperienced HC.

Not sure why we should lower our expectations that this should be a massive advantage for Tomlin and his D.

Pretty sad you can’t even expect this much out of Tomlin around here these days without reading how that’s an unfair expectation.

The Colts are mediocre at best, but they have a good rush defense. The Steelers offense needs to be able to run the ball to have any chance at putting up some points. I think this is going to be an ugly 16-10 type of game or the Steelers are going to get blown out. If the defense gets lit up, I don't know how anybody could defend Tomlin. Some in the media have started questioning him already and I think it would get turned up if they give up a ton of points to an offense marginally better than the Steelers' offense.

The Colts are averaging 16 points a game. If the Steelers get blown out and/or the defense gets lit up, there will be a lot of questions about a lot of things. Two of the five worst offenses in football on display tonight. Buck and Aikman have to be pumped.

I never said they don't matter. I am stating that head coaches are a factor but not the only one. The talent of the players and the execution by those players makes a difference.

And people act like Saturday is a high school coach who never played above that level. Saturday is a 4 time All-Pro at a position that is noted for needing to know both sides of the ball. They need to be able to look at the defense and assess and call the protection. The good ones are basically a second QB. And from what everything people say, Saturday was on that level.

I agree that Tomlin should have an advantage, I just don't think it is as big as people make it out to be. The Colts held the Eagles to their lowest point total of the season, 17 points, last week. Does that mean that Nick Sirianni isn't a good head coach?

Or another example, Bill Belichick has lost to three rookie head coaches this season. Does that mean that Belichick is no longer a good head coach?

People act like Jeff Saturday brought his high school coaching staff and players with him......

Colts are an astounding 2-17 vs the Steelers recently, and on a seven game losing streak.

Steelers also have an overwhelming coaching advantage with the legendary Mike Tomlin’s 16 seasons vs the inexperienced Jeff Saturday, who has only coached at the high school level, entering into only his third game.

Should be a slam dunk I’m thinking…

Mike Tomlin lost to a Special Teams coach since the HC was out due to Covid. This was a playoff game, no less

No, I'm acting like their offensive play caller was fired (Reich), and their OC (Brady).

That they are also bouncing between Qbs as well, and have one of the worst offenses in the league.

It shouldn't evolve into a shootout, which is what the original point was.

Expecting the highest paid D in the league with a healthy lineup and a coach touted as being a defensive wizard with 16 years of experience, to have a big advantage isn't Madden shit.

It's called you know, Tomlin and his D actually having to you know, live up to their billing.

That again shouldn't be too much to ask agt one of the worse Os in the league with all new coaches on that side and a revolving cast at Qb.

Here's to a big loss tonight.

I wouldn't mind the Steelers drop back depending on how the final board shakes out. If Carter and Anderson are gone and we are in the top 5, let another team overpay for a QB. If we can manage to get 4-5 picks in the top 64, that would be huge for the program.

Fifth overall has a value of 1700.

Which would be something like the equivilent trade for pick 16 and 26.

So the question is whether you would rather have picks 5, and basically picks 33 and 36.

Or

Picks 16, 26, 33 and 36.

Or whatever combination gets you around 1700 value.

16th and 26th, nah. 9th/10th and 51st, that could possibly work, providing they're still swinging at a 10 year elite answer on the lines or at CB.

He likely would have been an option for the Steelers so this isn’t ideal. There are still some decent tackle options left plus a decent amount of interesting corners. Whoever is the best option out of those positions is my hope. I’m assuming they won’t be in position for Anderson or Carter.

Pickett is scared to throw the ball if his first read isn’t there…he really isn’t impressive…and neither is the Oline…had an INT on like the Colts 30 yard line and failed to get any points

He literally did not even get the chance to go to his second read.

The Colts DL literally had a free shot on Pickett because he was completely uncovered.
