Dubas was never able to get bottom 6 scoring for the Leafs. Why waste assets and 10m cap hit on someone like Karlsson which doesnt even address the major issues the Pens had last year (shit depth scoring, goaltending, team defence etc).

Are you really telling me a new coach will be able to get scoring out of this bottom 6 lmao?
A new coach might actually play younger guys and play the third and fourth line more than a few minutes.

No reason why Carter should be playing.

They aren't really injured. Just a combination of mediocre goaltending and horrifically inadequate depth. Dubas did a good job of getting a buckshot worth of "guys" but none of them seem to be sticking (besides Karlsson, who is exactly as advertised and a treat to watch).

Has the bottom finally fallen out on this team?

Will Mike Sullivan finally feel some heat from management?

Is it too early in the season and everyone is over reacting?

Wait - so trading their first round pick for 4 years of Karlsson at 10M wasn't the best idea?

Who could have guessed!

Guentzel is going to be looking for a new contract this summer too.

No, it wasn't. The ownership has a clear mission: give Crosby, Malkin and Letang one last shot at the cup. Everyone should realize this is the mandate Dubas was given. He himself might have thought it's a stupid idea and rebuild should commence ASAP, but that's not what he was brought in for. He was brought in to give one last shot in the arm of that team, and I thought on paper he did an excellent job during the summer. Some good additions, and the biggest impact player on the market in EK65.

If it fails, it fails. Dubas has a long contract to oversee the rebuild as well, so I doubt he will get the blame if this attempt (which most of the people was a long shot anyways) isn't going to cut it.
You don't bring in Kyle Dubas if your goal is to win, that much is simple

This is about why Mike Sullivan is an awful coach that has somehow survived 3 gms now.

But it's turned into a whine fest by leafs fans about Dubas. More predictable than the Mike Sullivan system and quotes.

Lots of new faces, takes a couple of months to gel. Plus, that division has an oversurplus of mediocre teams which will probably be easy for a better team to pass.

It's a piss poor excuse mate.

The top 6 has 1 new face and he's a safe player for fit with Smith. On defense they added Graves and Karlsson and both are vets and then it's bottom 6 players mixed in with regulars like Carter and O'Connor. They had camp to figure this out and didn't look good because of the system not the roster.

The same issues for years are here now and the excuse is still players?

He must be friends with someone in ownership because nobody is allowed to fire him, it seems.

That core has 22 points in 6 games. How anyone can blame anything on them being ''too old'' is perplexing.

While I called it the Crosby/Malkin/Letang era - team success is based on more than those 3 players and the results have been declining over the last several years even with those 3 still playing at a fairly high level. It's inevitable.

Better chance Boston remains a PO Team post #37 this year because they have the talent in Goal and on D to make their commitment to team wide D a game-to-game premium and enough offense from #88,63 and #74 on the wings.

Yep, having that goalie tandem gives them a huge advantage to keep it going. While the Florida stary was intriguing last playoffs - I would have loved to see a Vegas/Boston SCF - two heavy teams just bludgeoning each other. Would have made for a great final.

They're the oldest team in the league and by quite a bit ( only team over 30 by average ) . They play a style of play the old legs of the team no longer support imho.

Against the Stars what i saw was a team that ran out of juice after 30-ish minutes .

"Sullivan, 54, has two years remaining on a contract that he signed in 2019. Once that deal concludes following the 2023-24 season, Sullivan's new three-year contract extension will kick in."

He is a handsome dapper 54-year-old man, I won't deny him that.

Won back to back cups with him. That is why he has so much job security.

4 1st round exits and a season not even qualifying in the last 5 years trumps what happened almost 7 years ago.

The team has the same issues it had 5 years ago and nothing has changed with any roster moves, the problem is obviously systematic.

outside of last year that's as much on Crosby as the coaching staff.

4 1st round exit years look like:

4 games, 1 point, -4
4 games, 3 points, even
6 games, 2 points, -2
6 games, 10 points, +2

Tough to win when he's putting up 6 total points and a -6 in 3 combined series

Not trying to shift blame off of Sid, but outside of that strong series against NYR (which had Rakell on Sid's RW) the entire line of Jake-Sid-Rust was just awful and Sullivan would never make a change and continually played the worst line they were icing 20+ mins per game.
