Official. Should help in the scrappy and rebounding departments...how does this count towards the cap? Is it a vet minimum since he has NBA service time?

Vet min, yep. That's the only contract they can offer anyone.

The actual minimum salary in dollars for a player is based on the number of years in the league up to 10. I think he has 2 years of NBA service time, so his actual salary is $2,087,519.

The league also offers a cap incentive to sign vets to those minimum deals so someone like Eric Gordon counts for the same $2,087,519 against the cap but makes $3,303,711. Otherwise you end up with a ton of meaningless churn at the cost of guys who can still play a bit.

TLDR; Morey cap good.

Does the team pay the buyout fee but not as a charge against the cap?

Teams are allowed to pay 850k (goes up slightly every year) and the player takes care of the rest, sometimes in payments. It has no cap charge.
Oh wait...so this isn't like a transfer fee or a posting fee? This is literally a buy out. Just like we buy out contracts here? And the Sixers are allowed to help Real Madrid with 850k then they pay out the rest?

Buyout is 2.5. Sixers pay 850k. I believe this 850k goes directly from team to team rather than passing through the player.

Yabusele pays 2.5 - 0.850 - a discount if he can negotiate one. Or pays the full difference over time. Whatever Real Madrid is willing to agree to accept.

Damn had no idea the player was on the hook for the buyout. That's kinda nuts.
