I'm sure Skinner would be fine watching Nurse stand up for his teammate.

You've clearly never been on a team.
Skinner missing out on a shutout because of a needless fight would have gotten Nurse bashed by many on this board.

Shall ignore your personal shot.. 2nd in last 10 mins.. Apologies, didn't know she was your mom

I feel like I’m missing some innuendo here.
His voice sounds like this guy from Silence of the Lambs:

Think it's taken a bit of time to squeeze the 1-3-1 system out of Arvy. Really great to see Line 2 drive this team to victory. Strange to see the Captain quiet in a Cosby Penguin game.
The game was sold as Crosby vs McD which is odd in itself because Crosby and the Pens haven't even shown up in one of the last 7 matches. This still being billed as some kind of showdown but it never is. Its like seeing Muhammad Ali pummel George Foreman. You need to see it once and after that its done.

I've never seen other superstars so content to be beaten silly in a showdown with other superstars so many times. No way Pens were winning this and pretty much everybody said so.

But Crosby and Malkin have been pretty quiet, whipped really, in all these matchups. Its one of the easiest matches for the Oilers. Its like Pens are our Nashville. I said pregame Pens only service as Oilers Porn.

That might be his quest but he ain’t getting 8x8 in Edmonton (or anywhere for that matter) given his stats.
8X8 lmfao. Who would give Skinner that?

So about the broadcast. Could there be any more talk of Debrusks fighting (he wasn't even good at it) during the broadcasts? Right during the action theres regular talk of anything but whats going on in the game. Such a terrible broadcast. I listen on surround sound. Anybody else they had manufactured audio noise on back channel. It was seeming to mimic skating noise but it constantly went higher and lower volume despite what was happening on ice. Got to be distracting once you were noticing it.

Can't even have real audio anymore? Everything AI? lol

Needless fight? That was a very dangerous and chickenshit hit on Arvidsson. Nurse did the right thing there 100%.

It often takes players time to adapt to a new team and system. Arvy was a pain in the ass to play against in the playoffs last year, he didn’t just suddenly forget how to play hockey. Hoping this was the springboard game that he needed.

It's a great storyline with two generational players who are the face of their franchises and the league itself at various points. That McDavid idolized Crosby. They are players that sell tickets with ability to dazzle fans and pull them out of their seats.

But there's the storyline and then there is the reality of two teams at different points of their 'product life cycle.' The Pens have one foot into extinction with an overhyped Dougie Howser GM pulling levers pretending to turn back the clock.

Come for the Kid. Leave with Penguin Seal Clubbing has been the takeaway.

I agree. Players are generally well versed with a finite number of systems which they've likely encountered in some form or another throughout their hockey lives. But the 1-4-1 is such an outlier with its structure and mentality that it definitely requires new habits to form - on-ice and between the ears. EDIT: Sorry meant to include the chemistry piece with new teammates can definitely take time to percolate.

Key for me has been watching the player's work rate and engagement. He's largely been pumping in games, maybe a wee bit less physically engaged at times from what I anticipated, but I've always liked the player, his game and approach. Last night the results broke through.

Another player who I think's true value will come through in the highly contested grind game of playoff hockey. Tenacious and fearless with good processor and skills.

Yeah. I'm trying to think of any other superstars that have just waved the white flag around and been slaughtered 7X in a row by the newer superstars on the block. I've never seen this sort of thing from an Oilers superstar. They get up for playing against other stars. Was like that for Mess, Gretz even as they got older, They'd never lay down like this in a marquee matchup. Malkin and Crosby have been whipped by the Oilers for 5yrs now. Guess it doesn't even register. Its kind of sad for McD in a way too. you at least want your opponent to show up. At one point McD is gesturing at the pens like "this is it".

In sports you generally want your opponent to at least bring something. Fans paid 200 minimum to see one team perform. The other team was standing around all night waiting for time to expire.

I’m actually shocked that Podkolzin didn’t look too out of place. If we can make him a top 6 guy that would be huge.

It's a challenge issue with NHL scheduling and a 32 league circuit. So many games often with condensed scheduling. So once a game stars slipping away it seems for teams on long road trip, it becomes play out the string and conserve energy and health for the next circus stop.

Last night the Oilers second elite and team supporting cast took the stage and curtain call.

To your last point, the NHL consortia owners prioritize the bank over quality considerations. And putting bucks down to see live sports in like the prize in Crackerjacks ... sometimes you get a gem and sometimes you get a dud.
